Dogma AB prophylaxis recommended for: ◦Previous hex IE ◦Prosthetic cardiac valves ◦Congenital heart disease (CHD) ◦Cardia transplantation AB prophylaxis regimen ◦2g Amoxicillin 30-60 mins prior to procedure ◦500 mg Azithromycin 30-60 mins prior to procedure ‣ Or 2g Cephalexin ◦Can administer antibiotic up to 2 hrs post procedure ◦AB prophylaxis recommended for CV devices if: ‣ Dental procedures involves incision and drainage ‣ Residual leak remains following CHD repair/closure ◦AB not recommended for prosthetic joint implants. CV and Myocardial Infarction ◦>6 months is the lowest risk category for recurrent MI ◦Importance of not delaying dental tax ‣ Endogenous catecholamine release ‣ Myocardial O2 demand ‣ Importance of post-op pain control and or stress ‣ Importance of revascularization and reperfusion therapies ◦Current recommendations ‣ Elective dental to/surgery contraindicated within 4-6 weeks S/P uncomplicated MI ‣ Elective dental tx/surgery contraindicated within 60 days without coronary intervention. ◦METs greater than or equal to 4 is the threshold ◦Factors assessed to determine major adverse cardiac event ‣ MACE ‣ Patient specific factors Recent MI
