Research problem: - Ongoing cases of students committing truancy and absenteeism - The uncertainty of students' safety of during natural and man-made calamities - Outsiders entering the campus by using fake identities and may put students at risk Locale: Passi City, Iloilo Proposed product/service: \- Students\' ID with designated QR code to activate the tracking mechanism in order to trace the current location of the students within school grounds and 100 meters outside the school gates. Time: 2024-2025 Research title: "ScanID: Active Student Locator Device via WiFi" Brief explanation why do you want to explore this research problem: Schools are responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of students, particularly during security threats, natural and man-made calamities. However, these crises often disrupt educational processes and pose risks to students\' physical and emotional safety. Ensuring student safety is a fundamental priority as it directly impacts their well-being and ability to learn effectively. Furthermore, maintaining the status quo of the school is important for preserving a stable and conducive learning environment, which supports both academic and social development. Additionally, addressing students' habit to engage in truancy is vital for maximizing educational outcomes, as consistent attendance is closely linked to academic success and overall student engagement. By investigating these areas, the researchers aim to create a safer, more stable, and supportive educational experience that promotes consistent attendance and enhances overall student achievement by exploring strategies in enhancing students' safety during emergencies, as well as to address the underlying factors contributing to truancy and absenteeism, ensuring a more secure and conducive learning environment for all students. Research problem - Ineffective drainage or flood control system due to accumulated wastes - Open drainage systems can be a breeding site for mosquitoes and diseases Locale: Passi City, Iloilo Proposed product/service: -a barrier automatically and manually opens when the sensor detects that the water exceeds a certain level while simultaneously filters any garbage before it reaches the drainage inlet. Time: 2024-2025 Research title: "Halarang: Water Sensor Activated Drainage Gate" Brief explanation why do you want to explore this research problem: -health safety -to have a well-functioning drainage/ flood control system Flooding is a common issue in urban and rural areas, often causing severe property damage, disrupting daily activities, and posing safety hazards. Waterways such as canals, drainage, and flood control systems are essential for managing excess water during heavy rainfall. However, these systems frequently become clogged with garbage and debris, thus reducing the water flow efficiency and cause flooding problems. Open drainage systems are also prone to becoming breeding sites for mosquitoes, further complicating public health and safety concerns. Furthermore, the current manual monitoring and cleaning methods are labor-intensive and often the cause of the flooding, leading to delays in addressing these issues. To enhance flood prevention measures, reduce waste accumulation in drainage systems, and mitigate mosquito breeding, the researchers aim to develop an automated barrier system equipped with a sensor to detect the rising water level in order to ensure the safety of the community in relation to health risks by having a well-functioning drainage or flood control system. Research problem - Persistent use of plastic which causes harm to the environment due to its long life which takes centuries to decompose - The agricultural waste of banana pseudo-stems from fruit harvest Locale: Passi City, Iloilo Proposed product/service: -A bioplastic made from agricultural waste serving as an alternative for plastic bags. Time: 2024-2025 Research title: "Blastik: *Musa acuminata* \'Señorita\' Pseudo-stem and *Cocos nucifera* Water for Bioplastic Production" Brief explanation why do you want to explore this research problem: The persistent use of plastic has become a significant environmental concern due to its durability, with plastics taking centuries to decompose fully. This long lifespan contributes to widespread pollution, impacting ecosystems, wildlife, and human health. As plastic waste accumulates, its adverse effects on the environment intensify, making it crucial to find sustainable alternatives and effective waste management solutions. In parallel, agricultural industries generate substantial waste such as banana pseudo-stems, which are often discarded after harvesting. Addressing this issue could offer opportunities for recycling or repurposing, reducing overall waste and mitigating environmental impact. This research aims to explore a sustainable method for managing plastic waste and agricultural by-products like banana pseudo-stems to reduce environmental damage and promote more sustainable practices in waste management.
