Reproductive System Mia kimmane, Dilcia mendoza, Toby nguyen Growth of Fetus Weeks 5-10 - The baby now has a heartbeat Week 24 - the fetus can possibly survive outside of and most organs are developing. (5) size of an the uterus apple pip (8) size of a raisin. Week 26-30 - the brain controls and body Week 10 - the embryo gets promoted to a fetus functions of the baby are fastly developing Week 12 - most of the organs are now formed Weeks 30-32 - the central nervous system has gained more control over body functions. Week 14 - the fetus’s sex can be determined. Breathing is now regulated Gender reveal! Fetal stage - major organs and body systems grow Week 16-20 - the fetus’s movements may be into full until birth felt in the stomach How to get pregnant and how to not 1. Ovulation - an egg leaves the ovaries - Abstinence - don’t have sex. and enters the fallopian tubes - Any barrier methods 2. Egg transport - this is when the tube - condoms , diaphragms, “picks up” the egg cervical caps. (these also 3. Sperm transport - sperm is left and prevent from stds) transported into the fallopian tubes, - Natural family planning - where the egg is sitting. 5-10 days tracking basal body temp. And 4. Fertilization - the sperm fertilizes the egg cervical mucus (fertility) 5. Implantation - the egg travels into the - Different birth control methods womb (pills, patches, rings, iuds ) testes A testicle is apart of the male anatomy. Uterus Your uterus is a hollow organ in the female reproductive system that holds a fetus during the stages of pregnancy. Your uterus is grouped into two parts. One part is your cervix, which is the lowest part of your uterus. A hole in the middle allows sperm to enter and menstrual blood to exit. The other part is your corpus. Your corpus is the larger part of your uterus that expands during pregnancy. Produce germ cells (eggs and sperm) it takes 74 days for sperm cells to mature. Your ovaries produce eggs. these eggs are They go through a process called then transported to your fallopian tube spermatogenesis. This process happens in during ovulation where fertilization by a the seminiferous tubules. the immature sperm has a chance of happening. The fertilized egg eventually moves to your cells get the blood and nutrients they uterus. When it gets there, the fertilized egg need in the tubules and then are pushed can then implant into the thickened uterine along to the epididymis (Tube along the lining (thickened In response to hormones of back of the testicle) which connects to the menstrual cycle) and continue to develop. If vas deferens. This tube is what releases it doesn’t implant then lining is shed which the sperm through your penis. is what your menstrual period is. Ovaries Ovaries are a pair of female reproductive glands located on both sides of the uterus. They are responsible for producing eggs and the hormones estrogen and progesterone, which are important for the menstrual cycle and fertility. Essentially, they are the female gonads that store and release eggs during ovulation. Each ovary is a solid, ovoid structure about the size and shape of an almond, about 3.5 cm in length, 2 cm wide, and 1 cm thick. The ovaries are located in shallow depressions, called ovarian fossa, one on each side of the uterus, in the lateral walls of the pelvic cavity Mammary glands and prostate glands Mammary glands, commonly known as the breasts, are organs that produce nourishment for newborn babies, breastmilk! They develop on both sides of the anterior chest wall. It is made of fat, connective tissue and glandular tissue (surrounding the nipple). They grow throughout puberty, before and after pregnancy, and breastfeeding. Prostate gland is a small gland part of the male reproductive system that produces fluids for semen, in the urethra. It is under the bladder that contains enzymes that thins semen and hormones allowing sperm cells to move. When semen is pushed into the urethra, it sperm and fluids to create semen. External genitalia Male: Penis, Scrotum, Testicals. Penis is a part of the reproductive system. Scrotum is the sack that contains the testicles and has sensory nerves. Testicals produce sperm and antrogens like testosterone, which maintain male reproductive function. Female: (Vulva) labia majora, mons pubis, labia minora, clitoris, and glands within the vestibule. All of these make up the vulva. A rounded mound of fatty tissue that covers the pubic bone and becomes covered with hair during puberty. The mons pubis contains oil-secreting glands that release pheromones. https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/body/9117-male-reproductive-system https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK547703/#:~:text=The%20vulva%20is%20the%20global,%2C%20urethra%2C%20and %20vaginal%20opening. https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/body/22999-ovaries https://www.nhs.uk/pregnancy/trying-for-a-baby/trying-to-get-pregnant/#:~:text=Pregnancy%20happens%20when%20spe rm%20enters,are%20at%20your%20most%20fertile. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK547666/#:~:text=The%20mammary%20gland%20is%20a,females%20but%20rudiment ary%20in%20males. https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/body/23965-prostate#:~:text=The%20prostate%20is%20a%20gland,push%20semen% 20through%20your%20urethra.
