Clinical Scenario: Mr. Osama , a 50-year-old man, visits his family doctor for a routine check- up. He has a history of hypertension and takes medication for it. During the consultation, his doctor orders a blood test, including a serum creatinine level, to assess his kidney function. Mr. Osama serum creatinine level is 1.2 mg/dL. What will be Mr. Osama GFR ? Using a simplified formula for estimating GFR, which takes into account age and serum creatinine level: GFR=140−age/serum creatinine GFR=140−50/1.2 GFR≈90/1.2 GFR≈75 mL/min/1.73m2GFR≈75mL/min/1.73 m2 estimated GFR is 75 mL/min/1.73m². This falls within the normal range for kidney function, indicating that his kidneys are functioning well.
