**REEMPLOYMENT OF SWORN EMPLOYEES** **PREAMBLE:** Applicants requesting to be rehired as full-time sworn OPD employees as contemplated by Omaha Municipal Code (OMC) [23-302](https://library.municode.com/ne/omaha/codes/code_of_ordinances?nodeId=PTIIMUCO_CH23PE_ARTIIIRURE_DIV11TE_S23-302REAFRE), will be screened by the Human Resources (HR) Director in accordance with the City of Omaha Human Resources Policy \#13 - "[Evaluation of Former Employees Requesting Rehire."](https://hr.cityofomaha.org/wp-content/uploads/Policy_13_-_Former_Employees_Requesting_Rehire.pdf) Applicants who are recommended for rehire are presented to the City of Omaha Personnel Board for approval. Applicants who are seeking to be rehired as part-time sworn OPD employees will be screened and processed as described in this policy. **POLICY:** It is the policy of the Omaha Police Department (OPD) that former OPD sworn employees who seek full-time reemployment with the OPD as contemplated by Omaha Municipal Code (OMC) [23-302](https://library.municode.com/ne/omaha/codes/code_of_ordinances?nodeId=PTIIMUCO_CH23PE_ARTIIIRURE_DIV11TE_S23-302REAFRE) must have approval of the City of Omaha Personnel Board. Former OPD sworn employees who seek part-time reemployment with the Department must be approved by the Chief of Police and meet prerequisites, training, and/or other required elements as described in this policy. **PROCEDURE:** **I. Reemployment Considerations** A. A former OPD sworn employee who desires to return to work as a full-time sworn employee of the Department must request reemployment from the City of Omaha Human Resources (HR) Department. The employee will then go through the process outlined in Omaha Municipal Code (OMC) [23-302](https://library.municode.com/ne/omaha/codes/code_of_ordinances?nodeId=PTIIMUCO_CH23PE_ARTIIIRURE_DIV11TE_S23-302REAFRE)(a). B. If a former OPD sworn employee is rehired after completing the process outlined in this policy (Section I, A above), the employee will be subject to benefits and limitations of Article 11, Section 8 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement ([CBA](https://hr.cityofomaha.org/employee-groups/)) between the City of Omaha and the Omaha Police Officers Association (OPOA). C. Any individual who was a member of the City of Omaha Police and Fire Retirement System (COPFRS) at the time of their resignation from the Department may be required to repay all refunded contributions and/or interest, upon reemployment, as may be mandated in the OMC and/or the applicable CBA. D. There is nothing in this policy that in any way limits the ability of a former OPD sworn employee to apply for a position in the Omaha Police Department in the same manner as any member of the public might do. **II.
