# ASSIGNMENT ON QUALITATIVE RESEARCH DESIGN ## Subject: Nursing Research & Statistics ## Submitted to: Mrs. Reena Ma'am HOD Mental Health Nursing UGRRO-CON ## Submitted on: 3/12/2024 ## Submitted by: Archona Badiyari Misc (N) 3rd year Batch (2024-2026) SORRU-CON ## QUALITATIVE RESEARCH DESIGN ### INTRODUCTION A qualitative "approach" is a general way of thinking about conducting qualitative research. It describes either explicitly or implicitly, the purpose of the qualitative research, the role of the researcher, the stages of research and the method of data analysis. It is often said that qualitative research is any research that does not include numbers. This is not a good definition as it is a method of research rather than the outputs. Qualitative search aims to explore, discover, understand, or describe phenomena that have already been identified but are not well understood. A qualitative research design is an approach to research that seeks to explore and understand human experience, behavior, and world phenomena. It emphasizes depth over breadth, aiming to uncover the why and how behind particular events or perspectives other than focusing on numerical data. The qualitative research has its focus, perspectives, meaning, uniqueness and subjective experience. Its aim is understanding. It is the quality of the experience, nor the number of experiencing phenomenon that is important. ### DEFINITION: "Qualitative research emphasizes understanding human experience understanding human experiences as they are lived, exploring the meaning behind actions, decisions and emotions, often in health care settings." - Polit and Beck (2021) "Qualitative research is an enquiry process of understanding based on distinct methodological traditions of inquiry that explore a social or human problem in nursing, seeks to give voice to patients and health care professionals by uncovering their stories and perspectives." - Creswell and Poth (2018) "Qualitative research is a type of social inquiry that focuses on the way people interpret and make sense of their experiences and the world in which they live. Researchers use qualitative approaches to explore the behavior, perspectives, feelings and experiences of people and what lies at the core of their lives. - Holloway and Galvin (2016) ## PURPOSE OF QUALITATIVE RESEARCH - Collect and explore in-depth information that cannot be expressed quantitatively. - Describe complex phenomena with rich descriptions - Explore issues that are culturally sensitive and related to difficult to reach groups. ## CHARACTERISTICS The characteristics of qualitative research design are shown below: ![Qualitative Research Design characteristics](characteristics.jpeg) ## STEPS OF QUALITATIVE RESEARCH ![Qualitative Research Steps](steps.jpeg) ## TYPES OF QUALITATIVE RESEARCH ![Types of Qualitative Research](types.jpeg) ### PHENOMENOLOGICAL RESEARCH DESIGN ![Phenomenological Research Design](phenomenological.jpeg) ### ETHNOGRAPHIC RESEARCH DESIGN ![Ethnographic Research Design](ethnographic.jpeg) ### GROUNDED THEORY RESEARCH DESIGN ![Grounded Theory Research Design](groundedtheory.jpeg) ### HISTORICAL RESEARCH DESIGN ![Historical Research Design](historical.jpeg) ### CASE STUDY RESEARCH DESIGN ![Case study Research Design](casestudy.jpeg) ### ACTION RESEARCH DESIGN ![Action Research Design](actionresearch.jpeg) ## CONCLUSION The final step of qualitative research design is developing Conculsion. This is where all the results from qualitative research design, types, characteristics, purpose and steps are analyzed. Qualitative research involves collecting and analyzing non-numerical data (e.g. text, video, or audio) to understand concepts, opinions or experiences. ## BIBLIOGRAPHY **Book References:** - Suresh-K.
