Theatre is a collaborative art form that combines words, voice, movement, and visual elements to express meaning. The term ‘theatre’ originates from the Greek word theatron, meaning a ‘place for looking’. It was not only intended to entertain Filipinos, but it also served as a teaching tool for Christianity. National Artist for Honorata “Atang” Dela Rama Theater is known to be the first star of the Philippine cinema. In 1979, she was hailed as the Queen of Kundiman and the Sarsuela at the age of 74. Through his initiative, they were able to bring theater to near and far barrios in 47 provinces across the country. She is also known to be the forefront of professionalizing Filipino theater and likewise advocated for the formation of theater groups. She was able to produce 10 books, 16 plays, 30 plays for children, and more than 130 short stories for children, which were mostly published by the Philippine Journal of Education.
