Nature and Elements of Communication Quarter 1 - Lesson 1 Communication Latin word communis which means common. communicare meaning to impart Elements of Communication Sender communicator or begins source the communication process responsible for encoding the message Encoding (Codification) - converting thoughts into symbols, sound, or signs Reciever interpreter the person to whom the message is directed responsible for decoding the message Decoding (Deciphering) - converting symbols, sounds or signs into Message content or information the sender wants to relay to the reciever Schema Verbal and Non-Verbal Symbols Message Schema - refers to prior knowledge from our experiences which can help us understand something and draw conclusion. Message Verbal and Non-Verbal Symbols - observable signals transmitted from sender to receiver. Verbal - words Non-Verbal: symbols/signals Medium also called channel means by which message is transmitted connects the sender and receiver Noise - an interference that affects the message being sent, received, or Feedback response of the receiver enables the sender to make adjustments to the signals he or she sent Communication is the transmission and reception of information between a human source and receiver using a signaling system.
