Switching off • Switch off your console Equipment We have two types of consoles available to us: the Developer Kit (black) OR a Test Kit (white) with an external CPU unit. Please remember how your console was brought to you – and what equipment went into what bag. This will be returned at the end of the day by you, and it will be checked to ensure it was packed away correctly. Look after the equipment! Set Up Your Dev Kit Console 1. Plug the power cable(s) into your desk outlet (ensure the power is off when you do this). 2. Connect the power cable to the console by plugging it into the back of the console (IC port). 3. Connect the ethernet cable (Developer VLAN). 4. Connect the HDMI cable to the console. 5. Plug the USB cable into the controller and into one of the USB ports on the front of the console. When you have followed the above steps, you can turn your power on and turn the console on via the power button. If you are missing any cables or are otherwise stuck in the setup process, do let your senior and/or lead know so that the issue can be resolved. Set Up Your Test Kit Console 1. Plug the power cables into your desk outlet (ensure the power is off when you do this). This is the power cable for both the CPU and console (two total). 2. Connect the power cable to the console by plugging it into the back of the console. 3. Connect the power cable to the back of the CPU by plugging it into the back of the CPU. 4. Plug the external CPU into the console via the USB-C connection. This will usually go in the front of the console, but there is a USB-C port on the back of the console as well. 5. Connect the ethernet cable into the external CPU. 6. Connect the HDMI cable to the console. When you have followed the above steps, you can turn your power on and turn the console on via the power button. If you are missing any cables or are otherwise stuck in the setup process, do let your senior and/or lead know so that the issue can be resolved. 3 - CPU Account Setup Pre-Made Accounts No account - Quick Sign-In If your project requires you to use a created account: Use the “Quick-Sign In” feature - which will generate an account for you, complete with online features. 1. Select Add User. 2. Select Sign-In. 3. Input the e-mail address and password provided by your lead. 1. Select Add user. 2. Press the Options button on your controller. 3. Select Quick Play. 4. For most projects, the default User 1 will be okay to use – but always check your project information first. Sending/Accepting Friend Invites You may be required to add other testers as friends on the console in order to test multiplayer features. This can usually be done in-game but we may have to add them on the hardware itself. 1. First press the PlayStation button on the controller. 2. Use the analogue stick to select Game Base. 3. Select Search for Player. 4. Enter their PSN Online ID. 5. Press RT (right trigger) to select Done. 6. Select the player you want to add, then select Add Friend and Send. Once an invite has been sent, it can also be accepted in the Game Base menu. From the Game Base menu simply select Friend Requests. This will allow you to accept and decline all friend requests that you have been sent. LQA - Change Your Region For LQA, you will need to set up your console to your language, so you can see all notifications and trophies in your language. You first need to change your region (super important when testing compliance!): 1. From the home page, select Debug Menu 2. System 3. Region Settings 4. Choose the region where your country is LQA - Change Your Language For LQA, you will need to set up your console to your language, so you can see all notifications and trophies in your language. After changing your region (previous slide), change the language on the console: 1. From the home page, select Settings (Gear icon on the top right). 2. System 3. Language 4. Console Language 5. Choose your language Debug/Dev Settings Once signed in, you will be on the PlayStation Home screen. There are plenty of settings that you can browse and change to suit your own preferences, but you will also notice that there is a settings page specifically for Debug/Dev settings. There will be a few important options in here for you to change if you are running into any issues. These are: System Multi User Boot Parameters Network (Dev) Multi-User - Fake PS Plus Under Multi User, you can give yourself Fake PS Plus (which is required to play online games and multiplayer modes): 1. Select Multi User. 2. Select your username. 3. Select PlayStation Network and turn Fake Plus Subscription Status to On. 4. Turn Fake sceNpCheckPremium on. Release/Assist Mode Release mode behaves like your console at home. While testing, the Console won't be able to go online properly, you won't be able to connect to PlayStation plus and Target Manager. In Assist mode, you will have access to the online content and all testing features. Your console should be automatically on Assist Mode, but always verify if you encounter an issue: 1. Select Debug Settings. 2. Select Boot Parameters. 3. Select Release Check Mode. 4. Change to Assist Mode. Troubleshooting – Assist mode I have a Test Kit. I keep changing Release Mode to Assist Mode, but when the console restarts, it’s still on Release Mode. 1. Check the “Release Check Mode” on your CPU. Does it say Assist, Release or Unknown? 2. Follow the Release/Assist Mode instructions to change it to Assist. 3. If it keeps showing Release mode, it might be because the CPU was knocked: 1. Unplug your PS5 and CPU. 2. Plug your CPU to the PS5. 3. Plug your PS5 and try again. 4. If the Release Check Mode shows “Unknown”, contact IT with that information so they can support you. Network (Dev) Network (DEV) contains the Single Cable Mode setting, which should be set to On to ensure proper connectivity via the Ethernet cable. 1. Select Debug Settings. 2. Select Network (DEV). 3. Select Single Cable Mode. 4. Switch it ON. Save Data Management You may be required to delete your save data as part of the testing process. To do this: 1. From the PlayStation home screen highlight the game you want to delete save data from and press the Options button. 2. Select Saved Data Management. 3. Select Saved Data (PS5) and select Console Storage. 4. Select the Delete tab from the top options bar. 5. Select the data you want to delete from the list. 6. Once all the data you want to delete has been chosen, select Delete. 7. Select OK and the data will be deleted. Alternatively, navigate to Settings and select Saved Data and Game/App Settings. From here follow the same process as above from Step 3 onwards. Find your Console ID Your Console ID will be the sticker you see on the console – usually at the top, and usually starting with PS5-XX or PS5Dev-Kit-XX. Find your IP Address When you have plugged in your ethernet cable, you should see your IP address: On the PS5 Home screen (Bottom right). On your external CPU (Test Kit). On your Dev Kit screen. Troubleshooting – IP Address I am having issues with getting my IP Address Most PS5 console issues will revolve around your IP address not registering to your console. Follow these steps to try and resolve this: 1. First check that your ethernet cable is plugged into the proper port: either into the external CPU (if using a test kit) or into the DEV LAN port if using the Dev Kit. 2. Check to see if your Dev/Debug settings are correct – Release Mode > Assist and Single Cable Mode: On. 3. If one of the above settings will not change, restart your console. 4. If you are using an external CPU, turn off your console and unplug the CPU. Plug it back into the console and power it on. Try this several times. If you have done the above and still don’t have an IP Address, let your senior or lead know and they can support you further. Viewing Trophies Sometimes we are asked to complete trophies as part of the testing process. We need to check that they unlock under the correct circumstances. Viewing trophies is a fairly simple process: • Press the PlayStation button on the controller. • Use the analogue stick to select your profile (or select your profile from the top right of the home screen). • Select Trophies and then select the game you want to view trophies for. • Alternatively, launch the game and press the PlayStation button. There should be a pop-up where you can view the trophies for that specific game. All achievement details are displayed next to or below the achievement thumbnail – unlock requirements, date achieved etc. Certain achievements are hidden and do not tell you the requirements for unlocking. Either the client will tell you the requirements for unlocking them or they can be selected with the X button. Upon selection, there will be an option to “Show Hidden Information” with the square button which should then show you their unlocking requirements.
