Ex: boss-employee Introduction to Politics Dawson College Midterm Study Guide – Fall 2024 For the mid-term exam, focus on chapters 1, 2, 3 and 4 of the textbook (I will teach chapter 4 before the mid-term exam). You should also review the class notes available on Léa. The midterm exam contributes 25% to your final grade. Topics comprise: - Basic concepts - The modern state - Nation, nationalism, and multiculturalism - Political ideologies When studying: - Go over any notes you have made on the readings - Share your notes with a classmate, if asked - Flag any concepts you do not understand, and spend extra time on those sections - Look at the list of concepts on page 2 of this study guide, and make sure you know how to define and use most of them - Make sure you identify and understand differences and similarities between concepts and ideologies - Think about real-world examples, not abstract ones When writing the test: - You will have one hour and fifteen minutes to complete the test. Be there at the beginning of class - Write in complete and meaningful sentences - Provide details and examples - You may use the test sheet to outline your answers and/or brainstorm Nature of the midterm The midterm will comprise three parts: Part 1: Compare and contrast - You will be given six concepts, and asked to choose six - You will define your chosen concepts, bring out their similarities and differences, and show their significance in political science Part 2: Identification of concepts - I will provide definitions or descriptions of concepts and ideologies - You will identify the concepts and ideologies based on the definitions or descriptions provided you - If you think the definition or description is that of, for example, power, write power 1 - Write the concept or ideology in one word or two words, do not copy the definitions or write sentences Part 3: Short explanations - Questions in this part will require you to provide brief explanations - Write a maximum of 5 sentences for each question, no minimum number of sentences required - A question in this section may look like this: Feminists describe problems in society and prescribe actions for how to change them. Explain two of these problems and their solutions.
