Physical Education: 1st Semester: Quarter 1 1. Mission and Vision Mission The Our Lady of Fatima University, together with Fatima Medical Science Foundation, Inc., is dedicated to the Improvement of man as man through the holistic formation of individuals imbued with knowledge, skills, and virtues. Vision A premier inclusive university of choice aspiring to improve man as man by developing individuals through a legacy of excellent education and compassionate value formation. Physical Fitness - a state of health and well-being and, more specifically, the ability to perform aspects of sports, occupations, and daily activities. ➔ Physical Fitness Test - (PFT) Are sets of activities that are designed to determine a student’s level of physical fitness. ➔ 2 Categories of Physical Fitness: Health Related - refer to the activities that promote good health such as endurance, strength, flexibility and the appropriate body mass index. Skill Related - refer to the activities that will enhance the physical abilities that show potential for good performance in speed, agility, reaction time of quickness, balance and coordination. ➔ Types of PFT and Its Components: 1.Health Related 3-minute Step Test - Measures Cardiovascular Endurance. Push Up - Measures Endurance of the shoulders and arms muscles. Basic Plank - Measures Strength / Stability of the core muscle. Zipper Test - Tests the Flexibility of the shoulder girdle. Sit and Reach - Measures the Flexibility of the hamstring and lower back. Squat Test - Determines the level of leg endurance. 2. Skill Related Fitness Stick Drop Test - Measures the time to respond to a stimulus. Juggling - Measures the eye and hand coordination. Stork Balance Stand Test - Assesses one’s ability to maintain equilibrium. Standing Long Jump Test - Measures the strength and power of the leg muscle. Hexagon Agility Test - Measures the ability of the body to move in different directions quickly. 3. Key Goals in Physical Education ➔ Physical Education came from the Latin words Physica → Physics Education → training of the bodily organs and powers w/ a view to the promotion of heart and vigour. Physical Education It's a subject that highlights the importance of physical activity for maintaining a healthy body and mind. This focuses on developing different skills in different sports, Including body movement, fitness levels, dancing skills, and appropriate values and knowledge. It plays an important role in human development, both physically and mentally, especially for young people engaging in physical activities. Student participation in dynamic activities is essential for holistic development. Holistic Development: overall growth of an individual across multiple dimensions: cognitive, emotional, physical, and social. 4 Key Goals of Physical Education and Wellness: PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT - Activities such as games, sports and recreational activity develop students’ sense of responsibility to maintain their good health. The physical skills they will acquire will serve as motivation to further enhance their growth and development. SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT - Students Involved in physical activities develop social traits that are essential to social life which enables them to adjust in every situation. ➔ Valuable Traits: Friendliness, Cooperation, Respect to the rights of others, Good in sportsmanship and Honesty. EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT - Through engaging the students in physical activities, students develop and be able to express their feelings and emotions. ➔ Traits : High level of self-confidence, self-discipline, self-sufficiency, audacity and strength of mind or determination. MENTAL DEVELOPMENT- Participation in various performances enhances students' mental skills through engagement in different movements. Understanding the rules and strategies of games helps students think critically about improving their movements. Vocabulary: Physical Education - part of the curriculum where students may be part of different activities. Physical Development - an individual who actively participates in any physical activity can have and sustain good health and elevated fitness level. Mental Development - an individual who develops mental capacity as information is attained and understands the right approach and rules of the games as well as in different aspects of physical education program Social Development - the ability of a person to act accordingly in a situation; the commitment of a person to develop appropriate interaction. Emotional Development - refers to how the students regulate their expressions and emotions through their experiences. 4. Health S.M.A.R.T Goals Health Goals 1. Increase years and quality healthy life and eliminate health inconsistency. 2. Increase incidence of people reporting “Active days” 3. Increase incidence of people reposting “ Healthy days” 4. Increase access to health information and services for all people. Physical Health and Wellness - the product of a healthy lifestyle. Priority Lifestyle for good health has 3 areas namely: 1. Physical Activity 2. Nutrition 3. Managing Stress Health Life Expectancy: is an estimate of how many years a person might be expected to live. 4.3% of the total population is only healthy for 64 years. 34.6 - 15 years old 61.1 - 15 to 64 years old Physical Health - It is the state of the body without illnesses that affect its functions, particularly those of the heart and respiratory system. The physical health of a person deals with the level of physical fitness of a person as well as its overall wellness. Overall Wellness: This includes mental health, emotional well-being, and the absence of chronic diseases. It also considers lifestyle choices like nutrition, sleep, and stress management. Individual growth relies on the perception of a positive lifestyle, making it essential to enhance self-perception. Health - a state where there are no illnesses. Wellness - defined as having a good quality of life and the state of well-being. To achieve an optimal health focus on wellness Optimal Health is about being as healthy as only you can be when adopting behaviours and forming habits that are sustainable. 7 Dimensions of Health and Wellness: Wellness, Environmental, Spiritual, Social, Physical, Emotional, Intellectual. BE S.M.A.R.T Specific - a defined and clear goal setting. Measurable - clearly measured to see the progress in achieving your goals. Achievable - realistic and attainable given your current resources and constraints. Setting an achievable goal is crucial for maintaining motivation. Relevant - refers to making sure the goal itself aligns with values and long-term goals and objectives. Time-Bound - refers to making sure the goal is set within an appropriate time frame. 4. Health - Related Fitness (HRF) 5 Components of HRF 1. Muscular Endurance - the ability of the body to perform repeated exercises without getting tired. 2. Cardiovascular Endurance - helps determine if the heart and lungs are working in coordination. It shows the ability of the body to deliver oxygen and nutrients to tissues and to remove wastes. 3. Muscle Strength - the ability of the muscles to lift weight. 4. Flexibility - the ability of the joints to move. 5. Body Composition - the ratio of fat to muscle. 5. Skill-Related Physical Fitness Terms 1. Agility - the ability to rapidly and accurately change the direction of the movement of the entire body in space with speed and accuracy. 2. Power - considered to be a combination of strength and speed, it’s the ability to exert muscle force quickly and ability of muscle to release maximum force in the short test period of time. 3. Balance - the ability to keep an upright posture while either standing still or moving. 4. Reaction Time - the amount of time it takes to start a movement once your senses signal the need to move. 5. Coordination - relates to the ability of the person's senses such as sight and bearing together with body parts in performing motor taste smoothly and accurately. 6. Speed - the ability to cover a distance in a short amount of time.
