PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT SELF-DEVELOPMENT Is a process of discovering oneself be realizing one’s potentials and capabilities that are shaped over time either by studying in a formal school or through environmental factors. KNOW-THYSELF “An unexamined life is not worth living” –Socrates “Read Thyself” –Thomas Hobes - an individual can learn more by studying others. “The Suda” reminds people not to be affected by others opinion. Because self-concept does not concentrate on people’s opinion. Rene Descartes states that mind is the seat of consciousness. SELF- CONCEPT Is ones abstract and general idea about him/ herself particularly toward his/ her unique personality and his/ her own perception about his/ her set of values, point of views and behavior. THREE ASPECTS OF  SELF-CONCEPT 1. Self-concept is learned 2. Self- concept is organized 3. Self concept is dynamic THREE COMPONENTS OF PERSONALITY 1. Id- satisfy man’s desire 2. Ego- getting the desires/ wants 3. Superego- Moral judgement or Concept of right and wrong “MASTERING YOURSELF IS TRUE POWER” – LAO TZU - knowing oneself will allow one to respond to a situation according to his/her behavior. “MASTERING OTHERS IS A STRENGTH” - knowing others is ability. INTELLIGENCE IS NOT HAVING THE MIND TO SEE OTHER PEOPLE’S MISTAKES BUT LEARNING TO HAVE THE HEART TO ACCEPT THEM
