Washington gave us 3 main pieces of advice: 7. To maintain national unity: Washington understood that the US was a mix of different cultures and nationalities. That's why he believed it was of utmost importance that Americans put aside their differences and view themselves as one peopleInation. He warned that political fractions and the categorization of people will endanger this Unity, since it quite literally divides people. 2. To remain nuetral to and avoid intervening into foreign Politics: Washington knew it would do no good for the new nation to jump into the vivalties of foreign nations (particularly in Europe), and instead we ought to focus on building a strong and united nation. 3 To keep the public good above personal interests Washington worried that now since people were free, they might not practice that freedom in a peaceful manner. Thus, he calls upon citizens to be "virtous and public-spirited to avoid "social decay. But Washington is also aware that humans are often selfish beings, so he encourages education. He believed teaching people from a young age to be good citizens was the surest way to acheive a law-abiding and productive society.
