PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND HEALTH 4 PRE ASSESSMENT: AQUA ZUMBA AQUA JOGGING PRE ASSESSMENT: DIVING SCUBA DIVING PRE ASSESSMENT: SNORKELING SCUBA DIVING PRE ASSESSMENT: SYNCHRONIZED WATER AEROBICS SWIMMING PRE ASSESSMENT: WATER WATER ZUMBA AEROBICS OBJECTIVES: At the end of this lesson the students should be able to: Discusses the nature of different recreational Activities Enumerate the different types of aquatic activities and water sports Archeological and other evidence shows swimming have been practiced as early as 2500BCE in Egypt and there after in Assyrian, Greek and Roman Civilization. In Greece and Rome, Swimming was a part of martial training. It is difficult to find an Olympic sport that has undergone such a dramatic change as swimming. In 1908, the Fédération Internationale de Nation (FINA) was founded to unify the rules and women's events were introduced at Stockholm in 1912. AQUA JOGGING Aqua jogging is a cross training and rehabilitation method using low impact resistance training. It is a way to train without impacting joints. Participants wear a flotation device and move in a running motion in the deep end of a pool. DIVING to jump head first into water, esp. with your arms held straight above your head, or to move down quickly through water or the air SNORKELING the activity or pastime of swimming using a snorkel. SCUBA DIVING Scuba diving is a mode of underwater diving where the diver uses a Self- Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus (Scuba), which is completely independent of surface supply, to breathe underwater. SWIMMING SYNCHRONIZED a sport in which members of a team of swimmers perform coordinated or identical movements in time to music. WATER AEROBICS Water aerobics (waterobics, aquatic fitness, aquafitness, aquafit) is the performance of aerobic exercise in water such as in a swimming pool. Done mostly vertically and without swimming typically in waist deep or deeper water, it is a type of resistance training. THE TOP OLYMPIC SWIMMERS OF ALL TIME ARE: 1.MICHAEL PHELPS is the most decorated Olympian of all time, with a total of 28 medals. Michael Phelps also holds the all- time records for Olympic gold medals (23), Olympic gold medals in individual events (13), and Olympic medals in individual events (16). 2 KATIE LEDECKY. In her international debut at the 2012 Olympics at 15 years old, Katie won the gold medal in the women's 800- meter freestyle. In addition to the golds that she won in those two events, Ledecky earned a gold medal in the 400- metre freestyle and as a member of the 4 × 200-metre relay. Ledecky is an American competitive swimmer. She has won five Olympic gold medals and 15 world championship gold medals 3. MARK SPITZ Between 1968 and 1972, Spitz won nine Olympic golds, a silver, and a bronze, in addition to five Pan American golds, 31 Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) titles and eight National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) titles. During those years, he set 35 world records, two of which were in trials and unofficial. 4. MATTHEW BIONDI He won a total 24 U.S. Championships in the 50, 100, and 200-meter freestyle events, as well as the 100 butterfly. In two World Championships (1986 and 1991), Biondi won 11 medals including six gold. 5. RYAN LOCHTE - LOCHTE He won three golds (200- metre IM, 200-metre backstroke, and 4 × 200- metre freestyle relay) and one silver (4 × 100-metre freestyle relay) at the 2013 FINA world swimming championships.
