Pancreas Parts: o Head:  It is related anteriorly to transverse colon & small intestine  It is related posteriorly to common bile duct “CBD” & inferior vena cava N.B : uncinate process lies between aorta “posterior” & SM “anterior” o Neck:  It is related anteriorly to pyloro-duodenal junction  It is related posteriorly to beginning of portal vein o Body: it has 3 surfaces & 3 borders  Anterior surface: part of stomach bed & covered by lesser sac  Inferior surface: related o small intestine & covered by greater sac  Posterior surface: not covered with peritoneal & related o :  Aorta  Splenic v.  Left kidney  Left psoas major  Superior  Left renal v.  Left  Left crus mesentric a suprarenal diaphragm  Anterior border: attached to transverse mesocolon  Superior border: related to splenic artery& marked by presence of omntal tuberosity  Posterior border: the same relation as posterior surface o Tail: it passes in lieno-renal ligament with splenic vessels Pancreatic ducts o Main pancreatic duct unit with CBD to form ampulla of vater that opens on major duodenal papillae in 2nd art of duodenum nd o Accessory pancreatic duct that opens on minor duodenal papillae in 2 art of duodenum DR.Hendawy “pancreas & suprarenal gland” Arterial supply:  Mainly supplied by splenic artery  Head of pancreas is supplied by:  Superior pancreatico-duodenal from gastro-duodenal  Inferior pancreatico-duodenal from superior mesenteric Venous drainage: drains into portal vein Lymph drainage: it mainly drains into coeliac LN while few parts drain into superior mesentric LN Nerve supply:  Parasympathetic: from vagus  Sympathetic: from coeliac & superior mesentric plexus DR.Hendawy “pancreas & suprarenal gland” Supra-renal Gland o Site: At upper end of the kidney o Shape:  Right side: pyramidal  Left side: semilunar o Cover: Covered by renal fascia & perinephric fat o Peritoneal cover Retro-peritoneal o Hilum:  Right side: Directed upward & Not reaching the renal hilum  Left side: Directed downward & reach the renal hilum o Arterial Supply:  Superior Supra-renal: from inferior Phrenic artery  Middle Supra-renal: from abdominal aorta  Inferior Supra-renal: from renal artery o Venous Drainage:  Right side: End in inferior vena cava  Left side: End in left renal vein DR.Hendaw o Development:  Suprarenal cortex: mesoderm in origin which differentiate into 3 layers: zona glomerulosa, zona fasciculate & zona reticularis  Suprarenal medulla: ectodermal in origin from chromaffin cells “neural crest cells” DR.Hendawy “pancreas & suprarenal gland”
