# Wordlist/ Glossary [PART 1] 1. **Information Technology [IT]:** A utilization of digital technologies for the storage, processing, and transmission of data and information. 2. **Invoicing (adj.):** Used for sending bills to customers/ or related to the process of billing. Ex: The Invoicing software simplifies the task of sending bills to customers. 3. **Customer retention:** A measure/rate of how many customers stay with a company for the long term. 4. **Human Resources:** A department that manages employees' relations and benefits. 5. **Payroll (n.):** A list of employees and their payments or salaries. 6. **Seamless (adj.):** Perfectly smooth and continuous. Ex.: The seamless integration of the new software saved us a lot of time. 7. **Server (n.):** A device/computer/program/ or system that manages network resources and provides data to other computers. 8. **Streamline (v.):** To make more efficient and effective by removing unnecessary parts. 9. **To automate (v.):** To convert a process to be performed by machines. Ex.: Many factories automate their production lines to increase efficiency. 10. **Informed decision:** A decision that is based on or showing a deep understanding and a lot of knowledge and background. 11. **Platform (n.):** An operating environment for software applications. 12. **Virtual (adj.):** Done or accessed via computer or electronic device. 13. **Groundbreaking (adj.):** Introducing new Ideas or methods. 14. **Feedback loops:** Circuits that feed back some of the output to the input. 15. **Internet of Things (IoT):** A network of physical objects/ devices with sensors. [IoT] devices can communicate with each other over the internet. 16. **IT Infrastructure (n.):** A network and systems that support IT operations. OR hardware and software resources for IT services. 17. **Database Administrator.** A specialist whose job is to design databases, develop them, and later maintain them. 18. **Software Developer:** A specialist whose job is to write software for company's computers. 19. **Helpdesk Supervisor:** A specialist whose job is to supervise a team of technical support people who help IT users/customers in solving any technical problems they may face. 20. **Support Technician:** A specialist who is responsible for looking after all the computers in a company, setting up new computers, installing software, diagnosing any technical problems and finally fixing them. 21. **Project Manager:** A specialist whose job is to plan projects and make sure they’re finished on time and with the least possible cost. 22. **Systems Analyst:** A specialist whose job is to decide the exact specifications for the software needed by the company. 23. **Security Monitoring:** A process of continuously observing and analyzing security events within a system to detect threats, verify security controls, expose vulnerabilities, maintain a legal record of activities, and enable forensic investigations. 24. **Server Upgrade:** It is a process that typically includes backing up your data, installing the new operating system, then restoring the data to its original location. 25. **Online Portals:** Web-based platforms that collect information from different sources into a single user interface and present users with the most relevant information for their context. 26. **Telemedicine/ Telehealth:** The remote diagnosis and treatment of patients by means of telecommunications technology. 27. **Health Information Exchange [HIE] Systems:** The mobilization of health care information electronically across organizations within a region/community or hospital system. 28. **Electronic Health Records [EHRs]:** Electronic versions of the patient medical history maintained by the provider over time. 29. **Business Intelligence [BI] tools:** They are proprietary or open-source application software used to collect, process, and analyze large amounts of structured and unstructured data from both internal and external systems. 30. **Customer Relationship Management (CRM) Systems:** They are systems for managing all your company's interactions with current and potential customers. 31. **Enterprise Resource Planning [ERP] Systems:** They are software systems that help organizations streamline their core business processes including finance, HR, manufacturing, supply chain, and sales. 32. **CPU:** Central Processing Unit (Main chip in a computer). 33. **Learning Management System (LMS):** A software tool that allows you to create, plan, organize, schedule, deliver, and report educational content from one place either of training courses or programs. In short, it handles every aspect of online learning. 34. **Human Machine Interface [HMI]:** It is a component or a feature of a certain device or software application that enables humans to engage and interact with machines. 35. **IT specialist:** An IT expert who establishes, maintains, and repairs computers and digital networks. 36. **IT department:** It is the department within a company that’s charged with establishing, monitoring and maintaining IT systems and services. 37. **Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS):** They are systems composed of physical systems (hardware), software systems and potentially other types of systems (e.g., human systems). 38. **Data processing:** Handling and manipulating of data by computers. It includes a series of operations that are performed on data to transform, analyze, and organize it into a useful format for further use. 39. **Interface:** An equipment or program which enables 2 different systems or programs to communicate such as computers or electronic devices. 40. **Robot:** Any automatically operated machine that replaces human effort, though it may not resemble human beings in appearance or perform functions in a humanlike manner.
