Summary
This research article investigates the impact of ocean acidification on coral reef architecture and the resulting reshuffling of fish assemblages. The study used a volcanic CO2 seep in Papua New Guinea to observe in situ effects, and found habitat simplification to be a stronger driver of fish community changes than direct effects on behaviour. The loss of branching corals and increase in massive corals at the test site highlight a potential for future ecological disruption.
