**ORGANIZATIONAL AFFILIATE -- OMAHA POLICE WELFARE AND BENEFIT ASSOCIATION** **PREAMBLE:** The purpose of the Omaha Police Welfare and Benefit Association, a 501(c)(4) entity, is to preserve the high standard of integrity of those serving as sworn police officers; to cultivate a spirit of harmonious cooperation with the Omaha Police Department; to promote and encourage health, recreational and social activities; to serve the best interests and welfare of all Association Members and their families; to promote better public relations between the citizens of Omaha and members of the Omaha Police Department who serve them; and all other lawful activities consistent with the foregoing. **POLICY:** It is the Policy of the Omaha Police Department (OPD) to recognize and support the efforts of the Omaha Police Welfare and Benefit Association (OPWBA) as an affiliate organization. As such, the OPWBA is authorized to utilize the branding symbols of the OPD. The procedures below are printed as a reference for the benefit of the OPWBA. **PROCEDURE:** I. Membership and Enrollment ============================ A. All OPD sworn officers are eligible for membership in the OPWBA. B. The OPWBA is sustained by dues paid by members, profits from investments of capital, and the sale of OPWBA merchandise. C. Officers can enroll in the OPWBA by contacting any OPWBA Board of Director and completing an Omaha Police Welfare & Benefit Association Membership Application. II. Government of the OPWBA =========================== A. The government of the OPWBA shall be vested in a Board of Directors, which Board of Directors shall operate, manage and control all the funds, property, business, and affairs of the Association. B. The Board of Directors shall consist of eleven (11) sworn police officers, all of whom shall be Members in good standing of the Association, and who are elected by the general membership for a term of two (2) years. III. Benefits ============= A. The OPWBA pays a Wellness Benefit to each member in accordance with the Constitution and Bylaws of the OPWBA. B. If any member dies prior to receipt of the Wellness Benefit to which he or she would otherwise have been entitled, the benefit, in the amount that the deceased member would have received, IV. Hardship ============ V. OPWBA Designated Events ========================== A. The OPWBA shall provide funding for OPWBA designated events as identified by the OPWBA Board of Directors. B. The following have traditionally been OPWBA designated events. 1. Annual summer picnic. 2. Annual fall Vala's event. 3. Annual Omaha Police Officer's Ball. VI. Awards and Grants ===================== VII. OPD Branding ================= A. OPWBA is authorized to use OPD logos, badges, and images. **REFERENCES:** I.
