Nagaland's Exclusive Current Affairs October,2024 The first edition of the Majestic Kapamodzü Mountain Festival was held from October 11 to 13 under the tagline "Where Nature Meets Adventure". This mountain is located in Phek district and is the 'highest table top mountain' in Nagaland (2,620m/8,596 ft). New species of Catfish, Exostoma Sentiyonoae has been discovered in Nagaland at Dzüleke river under Kohima district. Dzüleke is a tributary of Barak river which is the second largest river in Northeast India after Brahmaputra. Superintendent of Police (SP) Phek, Dr Pritpal Kaur, has been selected by the US-based Interenational Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) as one of its '2024 IACP 40 Under 40' awardees. She has served as the first SP of Noklak district in Nagaland. According to a recent report of the Nagaland Information Commission (NIC), Kohima, Dimapur, and Peren districts lead in RTI filings. In 2023-24, Kohima recorded a total of 239 number of RTI applications, followed by Dimapur (134), and Peren (106). Whereas, not a single RTI was filed in Noklak and Niuland districts during the same period. Nagaland has reached an alarming levels in Child labour, as a recent data from 2011 census revealed that 11,062 children between the age of 5 to 14 are engaged in various forms of labour throughout the state. As per the Annual Survey of Industries (ASI) 2022-23 report, there are 193 factories in Nagaland in 2022-23, registering a slight growth of about 1% over 2021-22, when the figure was 191. According to Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) 2023-24 report released on September 23, the percentage of Unemployed Youths (15-29 years of age) in Nagaland stands at 27.4%. Additionally, the unemployment rate of the Educated Unemployed category (15 years and above) rose from 8.9% in 2022-23 to 13.4% in 2023-24, reversing a three-year downward trend. Wales will be the official Country Partner for the celebration of the 25th edition of Hornbill Festival 2024. The 2023 partners were - USA, Germany, Colombia. Hornbill festival was started in the year 2000 and is held annually at Kisama from December 1-10. It was launched at Dimapur on September 27(World Tourism Day). Nagaland Government has partnered with Tata AIA Life Insurance to implement the "Chief Minister's Universal Life Insurance Scheme" (CMULIS) which will provide life insurance coverage to residents of age 18 to 60. Fifth Note band from Nagaland wins 'Ticket to Hornbill'- India's biggest band battle 2024 with a cash prize of Rs 20,00,000. Naga filmmaker Theja Rio wins Royal Stag Large Barrel Short Film Award at the Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI) 2024 for his film Ade (On a Sunday). Nagaland government has enhanced the upper age limit for entry into government service by 2 years. Nagaland government approves Meluri, as the 17th district of Nagaland. The decision was made during the cabinet meeting held on October 30. Meluri, primarily inhabited by the Pochury tribe was a sub-division under Phek district. According to 2011 census, Pochury tribe comprises about 22,558 population across 31 recognized villages. The new district will cover an area of 1,010 sq km approximately.
