## BIOL 155: Plant Morphology and Anatomy ### Angiosperms: * Are flowering plants. * They are the dominant seed bearing plants. * They differ from other seed plants by: * having their seeds enclosed in an ovary. * They have vessels present in wood (xylem) and they possess a complex reproductive structure, the flower. * Wood is a matured xylem ### In contrast the Gymnosperms: * Produce flower-like structures called cones. * Their seeds are naked, i.e. they are not enclosed in an ovary. * Their wood (xylem) characteristically lacks vessels. Spermatophyte -> seed bearing plants.
