Muscles of the pectoral region, shoulder and back Staff members of Human Anatomy and Embryology Department Faculty of Medicine- Zagazig National University Learning objectives 2 By the end of this session, the student will be able to: Name The muscles of the Pectoral ,shoulder and back The muscles of the pectoral, shoulder Classify and back Identify &Locate Their attachment to upper limb bones Pectoral Region CONTENT ❑Muscles 1. Pectoralis major 2. Pectoralis minor 3. Subclavius Presentation title 4 Pectoralis Major Origin Insertion it arises by two heads: by a bilaminar tendon onto the lateral lip of the bicipital Clavicular head: from the medial half of the anterior groove aspect of the clavicle. Sternocostal head from the lateral half of the anterior surface of the sternum. upper 6 costal cartilages. Pectoralis minor 6 Origin: Insertion It arises from the 3rd, 4th, and 5th ribs, It is inserted into the medial border and near their costal cartilages. upper surface of the coracoid process of the scapula. Subclavius muscle 7 ❑ Origin: from the first rib at its costochondral junction. ❑ Insertion: into the subclavius groove on the lower surface of the clavicle. 8 Serratus anterior Origin: Insertion: by 8 fleshy digitations from the upper 8 ribs. into the ventral surface of the medial border of the scapula and the ventral surface of the inferior angle. Muscles of Shoulder region Deltoid Origin Insertion Deltoid anterior border of the lateral third of clavicle, Deltoid deltoid muscle Origin 2 lateral margin of the acromion 3 lower lip of the crest of spine of scapula. Origin Deltoid Deltoid Insertion Deltoid tuberosity Rotator Cuff muscles Rotator Cuff muscles Subscapularis Front Lesser tuberosity of Humerus Highest impression of greater tuberosity of Humerus Medial 2/3 of supraspinous fossa Middle impression of greater tuberosity of Humerus Medial 2/3 of infraspinous fossa origin upper 2/3 of the insertion lateral border of the scapula Lower impression of greater tuberosity of Humerus The muscles of the back These are the muscles that connect the upper limb with the trunk. They are arranged in 2 layers: First (superficial) layer consists of: 1. Trapezius. 2. Latissmus dorsi. Second (deep) layer consists of: 1. Levator scapulae. 2. Rhomboidus minor. - 22 3. Rhomboidus major. Superficial Trapezius layer Latissimus dorsi Thoracolumbar fascia Deep layer Levator scapulae supraspinatus infraspinatus teres minor teres major Rhomboideus Minor & major origin 1-Medial 1/3 of superior nuchal line 2-external occipital protuberance 3-Ligamentum nuchae. 4-Spine of 7th cervical vertebra. 5-All the thoracic spines and their supraspinous ligaments. Trapezius Insertion of Trapezius it has a V-shaped insertion corresponding to the V-shaped origin of the deltoid muscle. a. Upper fibers inserted into the posterior border of the lateral third of the clavicle. b. Middle fibers inserted into the medial margin of the acromion. c. Lower fibers inserted into the upper border of the crest of the spine of the scapula. Latissimus dorsi The broadest muscle of the back. 1. Lower six thoracic origin spines and their supraspinous ligaments deep to the trapezius. 2. Posterior part of the outer lip of the iliac crest. 3. Lower three or four ribs. 4. Dorsal surface of the inferior angle of the scapula Insertion: into the floor of the bicipital groove of the humerus. Muscles of 2nd layer of the back Origin: Insertion: Rhomboideus minor and major origin Minor - from the lower part of the ligamentum nucha (C5,6), and the spines of 7th cervical and 1st thoracic vertebrae and their supraspinous ligament. C7 T1 T2 T3 T4 T5 Major - Spinous processes T2 - T5 and their supraspinous ligaments. Insertion of Rhomboidus minor : Dorsal surface of medial margin of scapula at the root of the scapular spine Insertion OF Rhomboideus Major Dorsal surface of medial border of scapula from root of scapular spine to inf. angle 36 Clavicle 37 38 Identify the attached muscle and mention its nerve supply? -Insertion of Trapezius muscle.
