Multimeter 1 Aim: Use of multimeter- 1) Continuity test for cartridge fuse 2) slide Wire Bridge 3) Measure DC Voltage 4) Eliminator for different cells like lechlanche cells, Danielle cells 5) Measure AC Voltage of step down transformer Apparatus: multimeter, cartridge fuse, side wire, different cells like Danielle cells/dry cells , lechlanche cell, step down transformer. Theory: multimeter is a : 1) Single measuring device that can function as an ammeter, voltmeter, ohmmeter 2) can measure alternate as well as direct current and voltages 3) rotation of the knob for change in ammeter range brings shunt resistance of different values in the circuit 4) rotation of the knob in the change voltmeter range brings resistance of different values in series with the coil. 5) if resistance across two points is lower than 2 points under, the circuit has continuity, and a beep sound is heard. 6)if the same discontinuity between two points then the beep sound is not heard. Procedure: Continuity Test: 1) It checks if the circuit is complete or not using a multimeter 2) Set the multimeter to continuity mode and touch probes together to check if it is working or not 3) If there is a beep sound which means no resistance then it is working 4) If there is no beep sound which means infinite resistance then it is not working 5) place the probes on the two ends of the wire or connection you are testing DC Voltage measurement: 1) Set the dial to DC Voltage mode 2) Connect the red probe to the positive terminal and black probe to the negative terminal 3) Display will show the voltage AC Voltage measurement: 1) Set the dial to AC Voltage mode 2) Insert probes into the secondary terminals of the step down transformer 3) Reading is notes Result: 1) Continuity of fuse and slide wire bridge is checked 2) DC voltage of different cells are measured 3) AC Voltage across the secondary tappings of the step down transformer are measured
