On my path to acquiring the CPE certificate, I met a lot of teachers. Teachers who merely taught what was in the textbook, teachers who, though passionate, weren’t at a good enough level, and native speakers, with whom I wasted time by pointlessly talking about each others' day. I would love to be that someone who I didn't have back then. Someone with strong English skills but utterly unspoiled by the uniformity of the current educational system for teachers. Please don’t get me wrong, it is vital for previously said teachers to exist. However, I think there is also a need for unconventional teachers who teach whatever needs to be taught. For instance, I was never taught how to make the TH sound properly. I was never exposed enough to various accents because the ones in textbook CDs didn't differ enough from the textbook language itself. Neither was I ever taught that in order to learn English, one has to go through many hardships, such as learning the essence of the word without simply knowing its direct translation to Czech. It is not only about attending classes and passively sitting there and waiting for someone to teach me the language. After not being able to find anyone catering to my learning style, I had to pass CPE on my own. Unfortunately, the problem is it took ten years to get from B2 to C2. Should I have an unconventional teacher, I bet I would pass the certificate in under four years. What I'm saying is that I want to be that teacher. I want to be someone who nudges their student to a higher level without showering them with rules that make no sense to them. Should there be a place for such a teacher at your school, I would appreciate it if you would consider me for the position.
