Motivation Thank you for allowing me to share some of the things we do to motivate our team. This is in no way intended to have you make any changes to what you are doing because I am sure we are all doing great and creative things. This is simply a view into our world. We look at motivation from a two part perspective, the first being the morale part of motivation. This is where were we have fun and do things like: 1. Shout outs on the Hub 2. Holiday Potlucks 3. Breakfast bagels/donuts 4. Celebrate Birthdays and Anniversaries 5. Bring in occasional lunch 6. Spa Story I believe all these things are important to build morale and they are quick hits to keep staff feeling positive. The second part of motivation is what I absolutely love to do and that is to be able to influence or inspire my staff to do their best, but before I can do this I need to understand what drives them. So how do I find out what drives them? I ask.... 1. Go over questionnaire -- a. What motivates you to do the best job possible? i. Money -- ii. Recognition iii. Personal Satisfaction iv. Job Security v. Challenge b. How do you like to be recognized -- Patricia Story Quickly review the rest of the questions. Once I understand what drives them and how they best like to work, I start to create the environment in which they can thrive. This is what really motivates me. To look for the opportunity that allows each individual to want to perform at their best, all employees have unique talents so my job is to allow them to showcase their talents. Not all talents are equal, but everyone is valuable and deserves for us see their talents and what they can contribute to the team. How do I do this... a. Engage employees in the solution, encourage them to be creative, outspoken, challenge -- CLIP -- Can't change what you do not acknowledge b. I listen to challenges/pain points and I work to remove obstacles -- Cam success c. Paint a clear picture of the goal and help them visualize success - Call Center working on value -- creating focus group, naming it, reward system d. Let employees participate in the goal setting. What is it in for them? It's not always money so rely on what you already know about what drives them...... -- WORDs Call Center and OPS. When call center had a member use the word they were working on they received recognition in staff meetings, Ops earns points for food. a. I hear laughter, people feeling good about being at work b. Teamwork/support is high c. Excitement is in the air e. I have employee buy in f. We are meeting our goals, SLA's g. People are promoting who we are and we are using positive words h. When I read member comments and they are using some of our words to describe us 7. Have you ever done something to motivate your staff and it backfired? Yes I over promised and under delivered. Now I just promise to try my hardest and let them know that I don't control everything so I will work to change the things I do control and I work diligently on wearing others down and I encourage them to do the same.
