8th grade THE NATURE OF FORCE LEARNING TARGETS: I will learn the relationship of force, mass, and motion of an object. 1. I can investigate the relationship between the amount of force applied and the mass of the object to the amount of change in the object’s motion; and 2. I can infer that when a body exerts a force on another, an equal amount of force is exerted back on it. PRE-TEST Before we proceed with the lesson, let us first test what you know so far about the topic. Please read the directions carefully and answer the test given. 1. Are the forces placed on the box balanced or unbalanced? 2. If Person A stopped pushing, would the forces on the box be balanced or unbalanced? In which way will the box move? FORCE The ability of push or pull. The push or pull on an object with mass that causes it to change its velocity. EFFECTS OF FORCE 1. Force can put a stationary body in motion. EFFECTS OF FORCE 2. Force can change the direction of a moving object. EFFECTS OF FORCE 3. Force can stop a moving body. FORCES INVOLVE DIRECTIONS SAME DIRECTION When two forces act in the same direction, they are added together SAME DIRECTION When two forces act in the same direction, they are added together OPPOSITE DIRECTION When two forces act in the opposite direction, they are subtracted together OPPOSITE DIRECTION When two forces act in the opposite direction, they are subtracted together BALANCED OR UNBALANCED FORCE Thanks!
