In the initial spread of this materialistic Civilization, though Comte, the material philosopher, was an opponent of the establishment of religion in the fear of idol worship, yet to establish religion, he urged the people to worship great men, and to establish temples for their worship. This type of worship is known as "hero worship" in Carlyle's language. Carlyle said - "great men are just an ideal hero. In the midst of global chaos and misery, they live and dedicate themselves to the welfare of humanity with undaunted courage and shed their last drop of blood. They are fearless, generous and overcome all types of personal, tribal and narrow mindedness. And they, reaching out to the highest stage of life's development, challenge the world. The Indian poet, observing the lives of these great men, has said - "Ayam nija parovedi gunana lhagucetasang, udara charitanaantu vasudhaive kutumbang". The meaning is that great men are not driven by the distinction of self and others. They are generous, that is, generosity is the main characteristic of their lives and their vision is the whole earth as one family. Keeping this character in mind, the Upanishads were sung in ancient times - "Yastu sarvani bhootani atman yeva nupasyati, sarvabhootshu caatmanan tatto na gupsati." That is, the one who recognizes all beings as his own self and sees himself in all beings, he hates no one - he shows deep love towards all. Indian sages have depicted the lives of these great men with these characteristics. Great men, rather than accepting differences among various humans, attract the entire human race towards themselves, recognizing the unity among them. The life of a true great man is a great attraction towards ordinary humanity. By the power of his influence, he acquires a permanent and distinguished space in the life of every individual, as well as in the entire national life. That is why, today, on the anniversary of the birth and death of great leaders, humanity celebrates the auspicious qualities of these leaders. **Questions:** (c) What does Carlyle say about great men? The sense of beauty is as emotional as it is intellectual. The old notion of literary principles and the principle of beauty is different from the new ideals. Currently, the surface consciousness of literature and art is the governing factor in literary ideals. Because the ideals of Marxist critics are socio-centric, they present their literary and aesthetic principles in the same way. The art produced from within the socio-economic system. There, art is not more imaginative but is connected with the real problems of society. According to them, the life-oriented literary ideal is always dynamic. It is not appropriate to bind the moving literary ideal to any specific truth or formula. There is no doubt that literary principles are the one who looks at the harmonious whole of the beauty in literature. The experience of "beauty" is presented by the principle of beauty in literary principles. The sense of beauty is not common sensual beauty nor the attraction of body's beauty, but it is connected with the excitement of the soul. There is a manifestation of the human soul in art, its expression is incomparable in poetry. The literary principles and the principle of beauty have always been working together to achieve a greater awareness of life. But the scope of the principle of beauty is wider and more diverse than the principles of literature. In general, the principle of beauty is called a common philosophical concept. In reality, the awareness of beauty is a very powerful and emotional aspect of human consciousness. The influence of emotion and imagination is very natural and far-reaching on the human mind and consciousness. Compared to that, literary principles are limited and specific. **Questions:** (c) What do Marxist critics say about the changing literary ideal? (d) What is the real nature of "beauty"? You need to search for the gem within. Even amidst the turbulent waves generated by constant waves of ebb and flow, you need to search for the gem, not just the sound of confusion. You need to find the collection of literary brilliance in the deep, unmoving depth, not the external beauty of women, nor just by looking at their skeletons, you can't determine beauty. In the environment of mechanical civilization, their thin clothes will not be seen as sweet, but on the other hand, only the intense passion will not be able to understand the eternal beauty of womanhood. In the plea, the eternal insult to womanhood, and the demand of youth, it is not possible to understand the eternal beauty of womanhood. The beauty of a woman is in her motherhood, in her loveliness, in her gentle dedication, to maintain the flow of life eternally. Similarly, the beauty of ancient literature is not in its rhetorical splendor or verbal beauty but in its awareness of the contradiction of life. And the beauty of nature manifests itself through the joy of enjoyment. The nature's image is the lifeblood of this literature. It has made this literature full of flavor, but the unrestricted movement of traditionalism or the fame of poets or the abundance of ornaments has hindered the free movement of literature in many places. Therefore, it is essential to study the ancient literature properly. On the other hand, the literary value and dignity of modern literature also needs to be determined. A senseless speed, meaningless passion, meaningless aggression, boundless sexual desire, needs to be avoided and the breath of life needs to be observed in modern literature. This is difficult, because this literature is all around us. It is spread all around us, preventing us from seeing. Therefore, it is difficult to find the ingredients of future welfare-oriented literature, ignoring its brilliance and exceeding its passion and being overwhelmed by it. It is difficult to determine value in the face of overwhelming literature without establishing a firm understanding of literary values. **Questions:** (c) What does Gandhiji say? They crossed all obstacles and reached India. The dense forest was covering this land at that time. The intelligence and efforts of those Aryans laid the foundation of India's history. Yet they could not say, 'India is ours.' Later, they blended themselves with the aboriginal inhabitants over here. They were also known as Hindus. In that glorious chapter of the past, what has India's history become? The Almighty has promised them that their relationship with the past and the eternal future is intimate. Out of this relationship, India's history is only Hindu history. The Hindu India, if separated from the past and the infinite future, has lost its value. When valiant men fought each other and showed off their valor, India was fragmented. Taking advantage of it, Muslims entered here and spread all around. The rulers established themselves here by accepting the soil of this country as theirs. If we say that India's history is the history of Hindus and Muslims, then will the Creator, who has created the entire society, accept our narrow-mindedness? Whether India will be ours or yours, Hindus or Muslims, or any other race will come and dominate, the future will tell. To be honest, the world is a battleground of self-interest, ego-driven competition. But this too is an illusion, there is no doubt. Because the real war is - It is only the war of truth, the war of justice. Whatever is best, whatever is complete, whatever is the ultimate truth that exists in everyone's heart - it is the one that moves towards progress through all obstacles. We must utilize whatever we have and try to move forward as much as possible. It will be our hope that it will be successful. Whether we try to become victorious as individuals or nations, it will not be fruitful. Because history says that the victory banner of Greece could not spread its sovereignty throughout the world under Alexander. The entire ambition of Greece has been in vain. There is no value of such ambition in the world. Similarly, the Roman empire also got torn apart and shattered into pieces, scattered all over Europe. Its ego was shattered, and it did not progress further. Nobody can console themselves for that loss. The descendants of Greece and Rome have been able to use the invaluable treasures they have left behind. **Questions:** (c) How was the foundation of Indian history laid? (d) How did Muslims enter India? (e) What is the real war that is going on, according to the passage? ## **Internal Assessment 5** **Time - 45 Minutes** **Full Marks: 20** **Instructions:** - Answer all the questions. - Choose the correct answer from the given options. **1. Write the correct answer.** (a) What loses its value if a person is separated from the past and the infinite future? Answer any three of the following questions.** (a) When does a person see the hellish skeleton? (b) Why does Pingala say that she would not perform any show of piety. **Read the passage given below and answer the questions given at the end in 2 sentences each.** Since the day we gained independence, for the past so many years, we have been talking about political freedom for our public, which means, not just that, but it's an endeavor to achieve total and greater freedom. Gandhiji once said, " I travelled all over the country and saw countless blind eyes. The pathetic image of humans. Those poor men, those who live in huts, where straw mats are spread-out, in them, the extinction of knowledge, however, remains deep. " In this statement Gandhiji refers to the material poverty and spiritual wealth of our people. It is essential for all of us to strive hard to remove this materialistic poverty and to strengthen faith in spiritual life. The condition of our poor population, is an indication of the situation of our country. The food that they eat is not enough to provide nourishment to the body. As a result, they fall prey to diseases quickly. The poor and the helpless live their lives that are not for human benefit. Therefore, food, clothing, and shelter are the primary needs of our people. Through planned economic development, we try to solve the problems of food and clothing of our public and strive to fulfill the demands of industries and export business by increasing agricultural production. As a result, the textile industry will be boosted and people will be able to get clothes at a reasonable price. By implementing the housing construction schemes, low-salaried employees will get houses. As many plans as need to be implemented successfully, there have been many cases where these plans have not been implemented properly. One reason is the lack of commitment in the hearts of employees engaged in such national construction. Be it any government or other sector, where people are involved in such responsibilities, it is highly important to arouse national pride in their minds.. **Questions:** (c) What did Gandhiji say once? (d) Who is the symbol of our country's situation? (e) Why aren't plans being successfully implemented?
