Mapeh 7 PERFORMING ARTS A. Music What is the role of music in theater plays, dances, and festivals? 1\. Music is a form of expression. Musicians use rhythms and melodies to show how they feel which allows listeners to relate to and find comfort. Theater forms, dances, and festivals have emotional themes that range from lively to serene, and music that sets the right atmosphere for it. 2\. Music is a form of communication. Music can be Intimate because it allows artists to convey a message that they may not be able to say with mere words. Many people struggle with communicating but can say what they think or feel through a song. 3\. Music makes everything more fun. A party, long drive, or movie is incomplete without music. This is why music is ever present in almost all celebrations. Music motivates people to naturally sway their heads, tap their feet, move their hips, and redirect how they feel through dancing. Music can make activities fun and exciting. 4\. Music develops creativity and imagination. In a constantly evolving world, theater forms, dances, and festivals continue to develop and adapt to changes. This is why such art forms never die. Artists create masterpieces where they can draw out creative thoughts and actions. After all, you cannot spell \"heart\" without EAR. 5\. Music unites people. It brings everyone together. Whether it is a feast, concert, or club night, music helps in bringing people together. While every country has its own tongue, there is only one language that all humans can understand, and that is music. What is a Musical Theater Musical Theater is a theatrical performance the combines songs, spoken dialogue, acting, and dance. The story, content, and drama elements of a musical may be communicated through words, music, movement and technical aspects integrated as a whole. Some musical plays in Southeast Asia are actually older than Shakespearean plays in Europe. Rural and remote areas used smaller ensembles, while urban cities and towns have bigger ones. Many instruments are made from natural resources of the region\'s tropical environment. The music of bamboo buzzers, zithers, and harps resembles nature sounds from Southeast Asian tropics. Today, Musical Theaters are being performed worldwide, using modern and contemporary mediums, processes, techniques, and practices. Most of which represent the history, culture, and traditions of their originating country. Lea Salonga, a Filipina theater singer-actress, sang the voices of Princess Jasmine for the song \"A Whole New World\" from Aladdin and Fa Mulan for the song \"Reflection\" from the movie Mulan. Musical Plays Examples of Traditional Musical Theaters in Southeast Asia? Flag of India 1\. Ramayana and Mahabharata Together with other Indian epics composed thousands of years ago, the performance of Mahabharata and the Ramayana in Southeast Asia dates back to 930 A.D. During this time, Hinduism was brought to the region. The performance of this epic varies musically depending on the country. Shadow and masked plays, and dances utilize music for important communal ones, In Bali, Indonesia, Mahabharata shadow plays are presented to the accompaniment of a quartet of metallophones known as Gender Wayang. In Cambodia, where the preference is for stories of the Ramayana, the music is a full gong ensemble similar to Thailand\'s Pi Phal ensemble. In Myanmar, a percussion orchestra of drums and gongs in circular frames accompanies singing, dancing, and dialogues in all types of plays. C. Dance Theatrical Dances Two very interesting dance forms from our country are the Maglalatik and Sayaw sa Bangko. Originating from Laguna, the Maglalatik shows a harmless battle between two religious tribesmen over the most prized \"latik,\" the sweet curd made from coconut milk. The Muslims are dressed in red trousers, while the Christians wear blue ones. It has all-male dancers with coconut shell halves placed on their hands and vests. They perform by hitting their own shells or others\', producing playful rhythmic music. From the province of Pangasinan, the Sayaw sa Bangko is performed by couples dancing on top of narrow benches. It requires great balancing and communication skills as dancers constantly hop, jump, or leap to exchange places. The Rondalla, a traditional Filipino string ensemble, plays the music for Maglalatik and Sayaw sa Bangko. As both dances are happy-sounding and fast-paced, their tempo is generally fast, and the melody goes in different directions. Both the Maglalatik and Sayaw sa Bangko began before the Spanish colonization of the Philippines, which means they are purely Filipino. These traditional dances are very entertaining and unique, which many foreigners enjoy watching. Such creative dances can well represent our country in the field of folk dances, which the Philippines can definitely be proud of. What are Integrative Art Forms and Festivals? Art is all over the place in the modern world and this is partly because of the rapid technological progress. A present, traditional forms of art like painting, sculpture theater arts, and other similar forms are integrated with social media, print ads, radio programs, and even daytime TV programs. This integration of the arts experience into the learning process results in integrated arts practice. Integrative art refers to interdisciplinary art, art research, development, production, presentation, or artistic creation of work. This form of art fully uses two or more art disciplines to create a work for a specific audience. For example, music plus drama is equal to opera.
