Module 30 will consist of: Chapter 4 – Linear Equations and Linear Systems Achievement Point 1 Lesson 4-1 Graphing Linear Equations Lesson 4-2 Slope of a Line Lesson 4-3 Graphing Proportional Relationships Lesson 4-4 Graphing Linear Equations in Slope-Intercept Form Lesson 4-5 Writing Equations in Slope-Intercept Form Achievement Point 2 Lesson 4-6 Solving Systems of Linear Equations by Graphing Lesson 4-6a Solving Systems of Linear Equations by Substitution and Elimination Lesson 4-7 Solving Special Systems of Linear Equations Learning Objectives (Understand, Know, Do) Understand (the big ideas of this module): The students will understand the concepts of linear equation, system of linear equations, rate of change, slope, intercepts (x- and y-intercepts), and function table. The students will comprehend what it means to solve a linear equation, to graph a linear equation, and how they apply to solving a system of equations. The students will understand how to use linear equations and systems of linear equations to model real-life situations. Additionally, students will understand the concept of linear function, and how functions can also be represented through equations (in addition to tables, mappings, and graphs). Know (what the students should know by the end of this module): The students will know the definitions and applications of coefficient, variable, linear equation, linear function, rate of change, slope, system of linear equations, graphing, substitution, and elimination. The students will master the two main forms of a linear equation: Standard Form (𝐴𝑥 + 𝐵𝑦 = 𝐶) and Slope-Intercept Form (𝑦 = 𝑚𝑥 + 𝑏), as well as the special case of Direct Variation (𝑦 = 𝑘𝑥). The students will also demonstrate knowledge of the similarities and differences between linear relationships and linear and proportional relationships, as well as the methods used to distinguish between the two. Do (what the students should be able to do on their own by the end of this module): The students will show mastery in solving and graphing linear equations/functions on a cartesian system of coordinates. Moreover, students will be able to solve a system of equations through different methods (by graphing, by substitution, or by elimination).
