Grade 8 Lesson 4b Mordecai and Haman In this lesson we will learn about 2 people during the Persian captivity of the children of Israel. The people were still in captivity and were living away from their homeland. During our current time in our country this story is a great example of how we should live. 1. Esther 6:1 After the first nights feast, the king could not sleep. He decided to read the records of the kingdom, and while he was reading, he realized that Mordecai was not honored for saving his life. This shows us that God does not forget our good deeds, even though it may seem He has. 2. Esther 6:1-5 Haman had just come into the court of the king to ask the king to hang Mordecai. At the same time the king was asking his servants what should be done as a reward for Mordecai. Since Haman was there he asked Haman as well. If the king had decided to read the chronicles a day later, Mordecai would have been dead. This shows us that God controls everything which affects our lives in his perfect timing. 3. Esther 6:6-11 Haman unknowingly gave the recommendation as to what to do to Mordecai as a reward. He had come to get him hanged, but instead he was the one who had to walk the city and honor Mordecai before the people. This shows us that even when we are hated, God makes all things work together for our good. 4. Esther 7:2-6 At the second feast with the king and Haman, Esther let the king know how Haman was trying to destroy her people. This shows us that in all things, especially situations which are hurtful to us, we must be wise in how we deal with the problem. 5. Esther 7: 7-10 When the king realized what was happening he was angry and ordered Haman to be hanged. This shows us that even though evil succeeds, eventually it will come to a fitting judgment. 6. Esther 8:2; 9:4; 10:3 Mordecai was exalted after Haman was executed. He took Haman’s place and became second in command, right below the king in terms of authority. This show us that if we walk according to God’s ways and do not compromise to evil, God will bless us. 7. Esther 8:3-14 Esther begged the king to change the command to have all the Jews executed. Since a royal command could not be changed, the king allowed the Jews to gather together and defend themselves, thus making the first commandment null. This shows us that even when evil is allowed against us, God will always allow us a way out. 8. Esther 8:15-17 The city of Shushan and all the places where the Jews were living were glad. This shows us that when a commandment is good than the country will rejoice. 9. Esther 9:1-16 The Jews gathered together and defended themselves. Even though they killed their enemies, they did not take from the spoils. In other words they did get any gain from destroying their enemies. This shows us that even though we are exalted and God destroys our enemies we should not gloat, be proud, or have any vengeance in our hearts. 10. Esther 9:17-32 A feast day was declared as an occasion to remember God’s deliverance of His people. The name of the feast was Purim. This shows us that we should always remember God’s deliverances in our lives and be thankful. Moral: When we plead with the Lord with fasting and prayer, He will give us victory in all our problems. The wicked shall fall into the pit he digs. Memory Verse: Proverbs 26:27
