VILLACRUZ- SUBJECT TEACHER Lesson 4: Tidying Up the Kitchen/ How to Cook Rice How to Cook Rice Cooking rice is a fundamental skill in many kitchens, as rice is a staple food in numerous cuisines around the world. Mastering the basic technique of cooking rice ensures that it is prepared properly, with the right texture and flavor. Understanding how to cook rice involves knowing the correct water-to-rice ratio, cooking time, and method to achieve fluffy and perfectly cooked rice. Key steps in cooking rice: 1. Wash the rice once it is clean. Twice if it is not so clean. 2. Discard the water after washing. 3. Put clean water with the rice at a ratio of 1:1. This is the usual ratio used for all types of rice. However, for the newly harvested rice, the water required may be a bit less because of the high moisture content of the grains. For varieties that have been stored for quite a long time, add a little more water to make up for the lost moisture content of the grains. 4. Power the rice cooker on and set it to COOK. 5. Let the rice cook and open only when you see the light indicator of the rice cooker indicating WARM. 6. Let the rice rest for a little bit (about 5 to 10 minutes) by opening the top and letting out the steam. 7. Fluff the rice using a rice paddle so that it is less sticky. 8. Serve. HELE4 HANDOUT MR. Values Integration: “ORGANIZATION” Organization refers to the systematic arrangement of items or tasks to ensure efficiency and effectiveness. In a broader context, it involves structuring resources and processes to achieve a specific goal smoothly. In the kitchen, organization means arranging utensils, ingredients, and equipment in a way that enhances cooking efficiency and promotes food safety. A well-organized kitchen helps in: Efficiency: You can quickly locate and access what you need, streamlining meal preparation and reducing time spent searching for items. Safety: An organized kitchen minimizes the risk of cross-contamination and accidents, as clean and accessible spaces reduce the chances of spreading bacteria and prevent mishaps related to clutter.
