(Ps 104:23) DIGNITY OF LABOUR When jesus lived on earth, he worked as a carpenter. He learned this trade in Joseph\'s workshop while working along with him. We believe by faith that through the homage of work offered to God man is associated with the redemptive work of Jesus Christ, Whose labour with his hands at Nazareth greatly ennobled the dignity of work. This is the source of every man\'s duty to work loyally as well as his right to work. (Vatican II, Church in the Modern World, no. 67) Jesus himself worked hard and also showed respect for other labourers. He made some fishermen his disciple. To insist upon the importance of labour, he referred to persons such as the shepherd, the sower, the domestic servant, the trader, the fisherman and the labourers in the vineyard as heroes in his parables. WORK IS A VOCATION Work is a part of God\'s plan for human beings. God created the whole physical universe and make the human beings its crown. He calls them to prolong the work of creation by subduing the earth and to use, develop and guide it towards its fulfillment. (cf. Gen 1:28, CCC 2427) God has gifted human beings with physical strength, intellectual power skills and the opportunities necessary to use them. It is through work that human beings will develop their natural gifts and so fulfill God\'s plan for them. In this way, work become a vocation. St paul worked hard, be also advised the people saying. \"If any one will not work, let him not cat.\" (2 Thes 3:10) LABOUR AND REDEMPTION 1\. Through labour, science and technology progress, new inventions are made and the earth\'s hidden natural resources are discovered. Thus through labour God\'s work of creation is continued developed and led to its fulfillment. (cf. Vatican II, Church in the Modern World, n.34,67) 2\. Through labour, human beings learn many new things, develop their skills and powers and transform society for the better. Thus labour fulfills human being themselves. (ef. Vat II, Church in the Modern World,n. 35) 3\. Through labour, human beings earn what they need for themselves and their families At the same time, They produce what others need and thus help society. In this way labour contributers to human progress. (cf. Vat 11, Church in the Modern World, n. 36) 4\. By offering the efforts, difficulties, problems and hardships of work to Jesus, the carpenter of Nazareth and the one crucified on calvary, human beings collaborate in a certain fashion with the Son of God in his redemptive work. Thus labour makes us participate in God\'s work of human salvation (CCC 2427) We believe by faith that through the homage of work offered to God man is associated with the redemptive work of Jesus Christ.
