TRAVEL TRADE TERMS 1. Ad Hoc Tour Package- A tour put together according to the specifications of a client. 2. Advertised Tour- A tour program for which a marketing tool has been printed or prepared. 3. Accommodations- rooms available for occupancy by guests. 4. Accompanied Baggage- baggage carried on the same craft as a passenger. 5. Adjoining Rooms- two or more bedroom next to one another but no connected by a common door. 6. Air Ticket- A document compromising all flight and other coupons, issued by or in behalf of an air carrier, which evidences the contract between the passenger and their carrier, for the carriage of the passenger and his baggage over a certain route. 7. Airline- a commercial company providing scheduled air transportation. 8. Airline code- The two alphanumeric abbreviation of air carriers used by travel agents and tour operators all over the world. 9. Airport Representative- An employee of a travel agency, tour operator or accommodations establishments who assists arriving guests. 10. Amendment- The change of details on a confirmed reservation. 11. Arrival Transfer- A trip from a destinations gate way to a place of lodging. 12. Availability- Space or services ready for sale, reservations or commitment to acustomer, at the time of inquiry or need. 13. Back of the house- Areas of lodging establishment with which guests do not normally come into direct contact. 14. Baggage- All articles, effects and personal property of a passenger necessary for his comfort and convenience in connection with a trip. 15. Baggage Allowance – The volume and weight of luggage that may be carried on board by a traveler without any additional damage. 16. Baggage Tag – An identifying tag strapped to the passenger’s luggage, issued by the carrier for the identification purposes. 17. Blocking – A reservation for a seat, room, tour or services. 18. Booking Card – A document prepared by a travel counsellor or reservations staff, which contains all the pertinent travel information, data and status of the prospective traveller’s trip. 19. Booking order – A document prepared by the reservation staff of travel agencies or tour operators, requesting space or services from suppliers. Also known as “Reservation Request”. 20. Brochure – A printed, book type marketing tool with pictures, graphics, illustrationsand appropriate text describing the products and services of a tour operator, and their specific inclusions. 21. Bump off – To off-load passengers from a flight or trip. 22. Business Class- All travel by a class superior to economy but lower than first class service. 23. Cancellation- The release of confirmed reservation. 24. Carrying Capacity-The total of essential services in a tourist facility necessaryto adequately meet the needs of a number of travelers. 25. Carrier- A duly franchised public transportation company. 26. Cancellation Charge- A fee collected by a supplier for failure of a client to use a reserved spaces, without having cancelled the reservation within the allowedcancellation period. 27. Charter- A contract for the exclusive use of air, sea and land transportationequipment, on a specific dates sectors or itinerary. 28. Check-in- Formalities attendant to the arrival of a guest at the place of lodging, including filling out the registration form. 29. Check-in Time-A hotel day begins at 0600h, however a guest may only occupy the room after an established check-in time. 30. Check-out Time- A specified time at which the hotel guest must vacate the room, normally at 1200hrs. 31. Commercial Rate- A special price for a regular guests of a hotel. 32. Complimentary- A service or product provided free- of-charge 33. Conducted Tour- A pre-arranged tour accompanied by a tour escort throughout. Also called “Escort Tour” 34. Confirmed Reservation- An advice that a reservation has been accepted and will be honored. 35. Conjunction Ticket- two or more air tickets concurrently issued whichtogether constitute a single contract of carriage. 36. Connecting Flight – A segment on an ongoing journey which requires a passenger to change aircraft (but not necessarily airline). The city or point where the change occurs becomes a stopover if the passenger is required to wait for more than twenty-four hours for the next flight or if the passenger voluntarily decides to stay for one or more days. 37. Contracted Rate – A negotiated net rate granted to tour operators by suppliers. 38. Corporate Rate – A special rate agreed upon between a non-travel entity and a hotel, which is usually below the rack rate and above Contracted rates. 39. Cruise – A sea voyage for leisure.
