# Social Psychology: Introduction ## Topic 1: Introduction ### Goals - What is social psychology? - Importance to a psychology major? ## Social Psychology Course Description This is a major undergraduate course that provides students with an understanding of the theories, concepts, and methods of social psychology. The course is designed for students to experience in the actual field ('social' laboratory) through the conduct of experiments and ethnography, _how people think about, influence, and relate to each other._ ## What is social psychology? As defined by Gordon W. Allport, the study of how an individual's thoughts, feelings, and actions are affected by the actual, imagined, or symbolically represented presence of other people. "**HOW PEOPLE INFLUENCE EACH OTHER?**" ### Influence - Ability to have an impact/to be a factor in other people's thinking and actions.
