Study of Selected Text of Holy Quran Lecture 2 Learning objectives Surah Al-Fatiha Surah Al-Ikhlas Introduction of Surah Fatiha Surah Fatiha is the first Surah of the Holy Quran and every Muslim recites it in his daily prayer. It has seven verses which according to the Holy Quran are repeatedly recited. Introduction of Surah Fatiha Meaning of Fatiha: The meaning of Fatiha is “opening”, the Holy Quran starts and opens from this surah, it is the reason that this surah is called Fatiha. Introduction of Surah Fatiha Some famous names of Surah Fatiha: This surah has several famous names, some famous names are: Um-mul-Quran (mother of the Holy Quran), Sabba Al-Masani (seven verses repeatedly recited). We start our every good deed, with the name of Allah that is called “Tasmiyyah” (BISMILLAH, starting with the name of Allah (Al-Mighty). But when we recite Holy Quran first we recite “Tawwuz” (I seek refuge with Allah Almighty from devil). Reasoning of Um-ul-Quran and Sabah Al-Masani This surah is the summary of the entire Holy Quran. It is also based and foundation of the Quran and all the subjects and headings mentioned in the Holy Quran are deeply linked with this Surah that is the reason that the Holy Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) gave it quality name Um-mul-Quran( mother of the Holy Quran)( Muslim Sharif) and the reason of this name is that this surah is summary of Entire Holy Quran. Ten Major points of Surah Fatiha Right of all praises and thanks belong to Allah Almighty alone: All praises and thanks are for Allah Almighty who has not begotten a son(or offspring) and who has no partner in his dominion, nor he is low to have a wali (helper, protector or supporter). Ten Major points of Surah Fatiha Lord of the entire universe is Allah Almighty alone: Allah Almighty is the sole lord of this universe. He has no partner. He is the one and only Lord who is controlling entire universe. Rubb means, sustainer, master, ruler, cherisher, protector and administrator. All things belong to Allah Almighty alone. Ten Major points of Surah Fatiha Unlimited Graciousness of Allah Almighty: Allah Almighty is the most gracious in the entire universe. His graciousness blessing and bounties are unlimited and cannot compare with anyone else in the entire universe. In surah Hashar (Ayat 22) He is Allah, beside whom Lailailla Huwa (None has the right to be worshipped but He), the All knower of the unseen. He is the most Gracious, the most merciful. Ten Major points of Surah Fatiha Unlimited Mercy of Allah Almighty: Allah Almighty is the most Merciful in the entire universe. He forgives all sins except shirk and if any person supplicate and request Him for forgiveness. He grants it. Ten Major points of Surah Fatiha Master of the day of Judgment: Allah Almighty is the entire and sole master of the day of judgment. He will make His decision on the day of accountability about all actions committed by us in the day to day life and which are all being recorded properly and timely. Allah Almighty will only be the final authority on that day. Ten Major points of Surah Fatiha Right to be worshipped belongs to Him alone: Allah Almighty is the only creator of this universe and has the right to be worshipped alone. There is no one else in the universe who should be worshipped except Allah because it is only Allah’s right. In Surah Anbiya( Ayat 25) And we didn’t send any Messenger before you (O Muhammad (P.B.U.H) but we revealed to him (saying) : La Illah Illah Ana (none has the right to be worshipped but I (Allah), so worship Me ( Alone and none else) Ten Major points of Surah Fatiha Right to seek help only from Allah Almighty: In Surah Al-Ra’ad (Ayat 14) For Him (Allah, Alone) is the word of truth (i.e none has the right to be worshipped but Allah). And those whom they (polytheists and disbelievers) invoke( pray)besides Him, answer them no more than one who stretches forth his hand(at the edge of a deep well) for water to reach his mouth, but it reaches him not; and the invocation of the disbelievers is nothing but an error (i.e of no use) Ten Major points of Surah Fatiha All guidance is to be given by Him alone: Every person who wants to be successful in this world and hereafter he/she must get the guidance from the Holy Quran. It is a perfect book of guidance and no one can give better guidance on how to live a successful life other than the guidance of Allah Almighty which I revealed in the Holy Quran. Allah Almighty is the only and perfect giver of guidance. Guidance is only in Allah’s hand. Ten Major points of Surah Fatiha Blessings bestowed by Allah on blessed people: The people who follow the commandments of Allah Almighty they get special blessings of Allah Almighty. In Surah Nisa (Ayat 69-70) And who obeys Allah and the Messenger ( Muhammad (P.B.U.H), then they will be in company of those on whom Allah has bestowed His (special)grace, of the Prophets, the Siddiqun (those followers of the Prophets who were firm and foremost to believe in them, like Abu Bakr As-Siddiq (R.A), the martyrs, the righteous and pious people. And how excellent these companions are! Ten Major points of Surah Fatiha To earn Allah’s anger and misguided people: The people who don’t follow the commandments of Allah Almighty they earn anger of Allah Almighty. If anyone earns His anger he will be facing lots of troubles in his/her life. Jews earned Allah’s anger and Christians were misguided people. The reason of Allah’s anger upon Jews is that they do shirk. They were thankless and do not follow their Prophet Mossa(A.B.U.H) and the Holy Book (Taurah) properly. Ten Major points of Surah Fatiha To earn Allah’s anger and misguided people: Christian were not sincere with their Prophet Essa(A.BU.H) they were thankless and not follow the Holy Book (Bible) sincerely. The followers of Prophet Muhammad(P.B.U.H) must learn a lesson from the behavior of children of Israel and must follow the Holy Quran sincerely. Essential Requirement to be a Muslim A Muslim must praise and thank Allah in our daily life regularly and perform the acts of praise. Firm believe verbally, heartily and practically on Allah who is the Lord of the entire universe. We must remember Allah’s uncountable blessing so we should practically thankful to Him. Essential Requirement to be a Muslim Always remember accountability day at every moment in our daily life. We must know that worship and seeking help are only Allah’s right. We must give this right to Allah alone in our daily practical life. To pray always for guidance from Allah Almighty alone. Essential Requirement to be a Muslim Do good deeds regularly every day as special blessing people had done it. Our best efforts to avoiding to earn Allah’s anger like Jews and don’t adopt the way of misguided people like Christian. Tauheed in the light of Surah Ikhlass (purity) Introduction: Surah Ikhlas is the second shortest surah of the Holy Quran. It is an excellent introduction to Allah Almighty. Iklas means purity and sincerity. The Holy Prophet(P.B.U.H) said that surah Iklas is one third of the Holy Quran(Bukari Sharif). The concept of tauheed is clearly mentioned in it. All the verses regarding faith depends on Tauheed, Prophethood and dooms day. Surah Iklas Say (O Muhammad P.B.U.H) “He is Allah, the one. Allah- us-Samad ( Allah the self-sufficient master), whom all creatures need, (He neither eat nor drink). He begets not, nor He begotten. And there is none co-equal or comparable to Him. Four major points of Surah Ikhlas Uniqueness: Allah Almighty is unique and one. We cannot compare Him with anyone else. In the entire universe, all are His creations and He is really unique in His existence, attribute and rights. Four major points of Surah Ikhlas Eternal(self-sufficient master): Allah Almighty is eternal. There is no concept of death for Him. Everything in this universe will be finished but Allah Almighty will live forever. Everything in this universe depends upon Allah Almighty. He is the only controller of all his creatures and He does not depend on any one. He is alone self sufficient master. This is only Allah’s attribute. Four major points of Surah Ikhlas No partner: Allah Almighty has no partner. He is the one and alone. He is the only controller of all His creatures. He has no partner in the entire universe. He has no son, wife, mother, father and daughter like human beings because it is the worst shirk and shirk is the greatest sin in Islam. Four major points of Surah Ikhlas No one is equal to Him: Allah Almighty is the lord of the entire universe and no one is equal to Him. No one is greater than Him as He is the sole lord of the entire universe. There is none equal to Him. “There is nothing like Him in the universe”. Practical link…….. Firm faith in Allah Almighty by spoken word, acceptance by heart and in practice is the foremost requirement for a true believer.
