Introduction and nomenclature 2. Instruments 3. Principles of tooth preparation 4. Full metal crown 5. Metal-ceramic crown PROSTHESIS IS ANY ARTIFICIAL REPLACEMENT OF A MISSING BODY PART PROSTHESIS PROSTHODONTICS The dental specialty concerned with the making of artificial replacements for missing parts of the mouth and jaw. Also prosthetic dentistry or prosthodontia. Fixed Prosthodontics Removable Prosthodontics Fixed prosthodontics Removable prosthodontics GOALS To restore: 1. Mastication 2. Speech 3. Esthetics 4. Occlusion 5. Health FIXED PROSTHODONTICS (SINGLE RESTORATIONS) 1. Intra-coronal restorations: Inlays and onlays (Gold and all ceramic) 2. Extra-coronal restorations: Crowns (full and partial coverage) and veneers 3. Intra-radicular restorations: Post crowns INTRA-CORONAL RESTORATIONS INLAYS Intra-coronal indirect restorations made of gold, composite resin, or ceramic material, involving the occlusal and one or both proximal surfaces cemented into a prepared cavity in the tooth Gold inlay INTRA-CORONAL RESTORATIONS ONLAYS Intra-coronal indirect restorations made of gold, composite resin, or ceramic material, involving the occlusal and one or both proximal surfaces with cusp coverage ALL CERAMIC INLAY AND ONLAY Inlay Onlay INLAY, ONLAY AND FULL CROWN Overlay covers both inner and outer parts of the crown preserving the tooth substance EXTRA-CORONAL RESTORATIONS CROWNS AND BRIDGES (FPD) CROWN CROWN: IT IS AN ARTIFICIAL REPLACEMENT THAT RESTORES MISSING TOOTH STRUCTURE BY SURROUNDING MOST OR ALL OF THE REMAINING STRUCTURE WITH A MATERIAL SUCH AS CAST METAL, CERAMIC, OR COMBINATION OF MATERIALS SUCH AS METAL AND PORCELAIN CLASSIFICATION OF CROWNS Crown according to number of the covered surfaces: FULL Coverage PARTIAL Coverage ( 5 surface ) Complete veneer: CLASSIFICATION OF CROWNS According to Material : Metallic : Casted- Non casted (Swaged- milled- sintered) Complete metal cast crown MILLED CROWN This method involves a computerized milling machine, which cuts the restoration out of a solid block of material. SINTERING (3D PRINTED) METAL CROWN The metal 3D printer spreads a thin layer of the metal powder on the bed, then a laser sinters the metal creating the shape of the 3D restoration CLASSIFICATION OF CROWNS According to Material : Metallic : Casted- Non casted (Swaged- milled- sintered) Non Metallic : Ceramics Resins All ceramic crown PORCELAIN JACKET CROWN A porcelain jacket crown is used to cover the entire surface of the affected tooth. As the name suggests, jacket crowns are used to cover and protect affected teeth from the risk of decay or further damage to the tooth. PORCELAIN JACKET CROWN Temporary crown A temporary crown (provisional crown, interim crown) is a temporary (short-term) crown usually made of a resin material that serves until a final (definitive) restoration can be inserted. CLASSIFICATION OF CROWNS According to Material : Metallic : Casted- Non casted (Swaged- sintered-milled) full veneer metal crown Non Metallic : Ceramics Acrylic resins Combination : (Ceramo-metallic or porcelain fused to metal restorations) Veneered Full veneered Full veneer metal crown Veneered metal crown Full veneered metal crown Full veneer metal crown Porcelain fused to metal Crowns (Ceramo-metallic crown) Veneered Crown Full Veneered Crown An artificial full coverage An artificial full coverage metal metal crown with the facial crown with all the surfaces surface covered with porcelain covered with porcelain Porcelain fused to metal Crowns (Ceramo-metallic crown) These restorations combine the strength of cast metal restorations with the esthetics of ceramic restorations. However, the preparation is not conservative as their preparation needs more reduction of the tooth structure to provide bulk for both materials used. INTRA-RADICULAR RESTORATIONS They restore endodontically treated teeth through inserting a post in the prepared root canal. This type of restoration is used when the remaining coronal tissue can not provide adequate support and retention for the restoration material. Restoration of endodontically treated teeth CLINICAL PROCEDURE FOR PREPARING AND INSERTING A POST Restoration of endodontically treated teeth Ready made post with Custom made metal post and amalgam core and full metal core and porcelain jacket crown crown
