LABORATORY TECHNIQUES Research III What are laboratory techniques? Laboratory techniques refer to the specific procedures, methods, and tools used in scientific laboratories to conduct experiments, analyze samples, and gather data. Distillation -process of separating components in a mixture using difference in boiling points(heating and cooling). Filtration -physical means of separating solids from liquids in a heterogeneous mixture Extraction -involves the separation of medicinally active portions of plant or animal tissues from the inactive or inert components by using selective solvents in standard extraction procedures Why does extraction method beneficial in cosmetics industry? Culturing -method of introducing microorganisms into environments where they can grow and reproduce Phytochemical Analysis -helpful in searching for bioactive agents that can be used as dietary supplement Centrifugation -a method of separating molecules having different densities by spinning in solution around an axis at high speed. pH Measurement -based on the use of a pH sensitive electrode, a reference electrode, and a temperature element to provide a temperature signal to the pH analyzer. Will you be able to categorize these different laboratory techniques according to its use in the field of study? Categories Biological Physical Chemical What makes our drinking water safe to drink? Why is it important to choose the appropriate laboratory technique for a particular study?
