Laboratory Glassware and Basic Equipment Aspirator This is a device that is able to produce a vacuum by using the venturi effect. In an aspirator there is a fluid (either liquid or gaseous) that flows through a narrowing tube. Beaker Beakers are useful as a reaction container or to hold liquid or solid samples. ERLENMEYER FLASK Erlenmeyer Flasks are useful to contain reactions or to hold liquid samples. BURETTE CLAMP is a laboratory tool used to securely hold a burette in place during any laboratory procedures that require precise volume measurement. Test tube brush Used for cleaning the test tube. Test tube rack Test tube racks can be made of wood, metal, or plastic. Test tube racks are used for holding test tubes upright when they contain chemicals, and also hold test tubes upside down to dry. PORCELAIN SPATULA It is one of the laboratory materials. It is used to take small amounts of compounds that are basically powder. Medicine Dropper are for addition of liquids drop by drop. Stirring Rod is used for mixing liquids, or solids and liquids. Funnel are for funneling liquids from one container to another or for filtering when equipped with filter paper. Wire Gauze On a ring supports beakers to be heated by Bunsen burners. Metal Spatula is used for scraping and transferring small amounts of powders or solids. Test tube Holder are for holding test tubes when tubes should not be touched. Clay Triangle are placed on a ring attached to a ring stand as a support for a funnel, crucible, or evaporating dish. Pipette are used to dispense small quantities of liquids. Evaporating dish is a tool used in labs to separate liquids and solids from a solution by allowing the water to evaporate off into the air. A laboratory tripod is a three-legged platform used to support flasks and beakers. Laboratory thermometers A laboratory thermometer is used to measure the boiling point during experiments. It is also used to measure the temperature of substances. Mortar and Pestle A mortar and pestle is a tool used to grind and mix substances. Watch glass are for holding small samples or for covering beakers or evaporating dishes. Test tube are used to hold, mix, and heat chemical experiments. Crucible tong Are used to grasp and take a hot crucible. Alcohol lamp is used for heating, sterilization, and combustion in a laboratory. Crucible and cover is used to heat solid chemicals over a burner at high temperatures. Bunsen burner is a type of gas burner that is used in many chemistry procedures in a laboratory setting. It is used to heat substances, to combust substances, and to sterilize objects on high heat. Triple beam balance is used to measure the mass of the small object.
