10/4/24 Fever Fever & Headaches Goal: Alleviate discomfort If a referral, can still recommend a self care product in the meantime – DO NOT DENY Therapy – just ensure patient sees or calls MD APAP Dose: 10-15 mg/kg dose every 4-6 hours – Do not exceed 5 doses Ibuprofen 5-10 mg/kg/dose every 6-8 hours – Max 4 doses per day – Ibuprofen may be slightly more effective and have a longer duration of action, but minor clinical advantage 2 3 Children < 3 months with ≥100.4 F Nonpharmacologic therapy for fever Children > 3 months with temp ≥104 F Children 24 hours Children predisposed to febrile Adequate fluids seizures Severe symptoms of infection – Additional 30-60 ml per hour Self Care Treatment for greater then 72 hours or an increase in fever during – 60-120 ml for adults Exclusions treatment Associated with spots or a rash Body sponging with tepid water of Fever Refusal to drink fluids Vomiting or repeated diarrhea – Not recommended for
