Introduction of anatomy ‫د مروه جبار صيوان‬.‫م‬ Objectives of Lecture  Definition of Anatomy  To define the anatomical position.  To describe important planes and section. Definition of anatomy  Anatomy is the science of the structure and function of the body. The anatomical position The anatomical position  The position is the standard reference position of the body used to describe the location of structures. Note  Palm ‫راحة اليد‬  Sole ‫راحة القدم‬ The anatomical position  Hands by the side.  Feet together.  Face looking forward.  Mouth is closed.  Facial expression is neutral.  Palms face forward with fingers straight.  Toes point forward. Anatomical planes  Is a hypothetical plane used to transect the body in in order to describe the location of the structure. Anatomical sections Anatomical section  Longitudinal section  Transverse section  Oblique section ‫مقطع طولي‬  ‫المقطع العرضي‬  ‫ يقسم مائل‬ Terms of relationship Hand Part of the hand Note of the prefix Terms of laterality  Bilateral paired structure present on both sides (kidneys).  Unilateral unpaired structure present on one side (spleen).  Ipsilateral relating thing to the same side of the body.  Contralateral relating things to different side of the body. Terms Related to Movement  A site where two or more bones come together is known as a joint. Some joints have no movement (sutures of the skull), some have only slight movement (superior tibiofibular joint), and some are freely movable (shoulder joint).  1.Flexion is a movement that takes place in a sagittal plane.  Extension means straightening the joint and usually takes place in a posterior direction  2.Abduction is a movement of a limb away from the midline of the body in the coronal plane.  Adduction is a movement of a limb toward the body in the coronal plane.  3. Medial rotation is the movement that results in the anterior surface of the part facing medially.  Lateral rotation is the movement that results in the anterior surface of the part facing laterally.  4 supination your palm faces up.  Pronation your palm faces down.
