# WWI AQA Oxford... ## The Alliance System Each of the major European powers aligned themselves with others to increase their influence and security. Ultimately, two rival camps were formed: the Triple Alliance and the Triple Entente. France, Russia and Britain joined forces to help protect themselves against Germany. ## Problems with the alliances - If a disagreement started between any two nations in opposite alliances, the others could quickly get dragged into the conflict. - This could result in a large-scale war between several well-armed countries.
