Previously known as Gender Identity Disorder. Gender dysphoria is different from gender nonconformity. # Causes of Gender Dysphoria * Genetic * Biological * Environmental * Cultural # Treatment * HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy) * Gender-affirming surgery * Psychotherapy # Schizophrenia * Life expectancy: 20-28 years shorter than average, shorter by 13 years with 70-80% heritability. * Can sometimes occur after brain injury * Diagnosis based on observed behavior, experiences, and reports of others familiar with the person. * **Causes:** * Genetic (70-80%) * Environmental (Oxygen deprivation/infection in the womb, maternal stress/malnutrition, childhood trauma, bullying, abuse, parent death, urban environment) # Complications * Harm to self * Harm to others * Social isolation * Cognitive issues * Heart disease * Infections (poor hygiene) * Lifestyle diseases * Obesity & Diabetes (from antipsychotic medication) # Schizophrenia Symptoms * **Blunted affect:** Flat expressions, monotone * **Alogia:** Lack of speech * **Anhedonia:** Inability to feel pleasure * **Asociality:** Lack of desire to form relationships * **Avolition:** Lack of motivation * **Apathy:** Lack of enthusiasm or concern * **Hallucinations** * Roughly 50% of schizophrenics have abused alcohol, tobacco, and cannabis prior to symptoms onset # ADHD * **Inattention** * **Hyperactivity** * **Impulsivity** * **Emotional dysregulation** * **Dysfunction** * Deficits in self-regulation (Time management, Inhibition, Sustained attention, Finishing projects) # Three ADHD Types: * Predominantly inattentive (ADHD PI/I) * Predominantly hyperactive-impulsive (ADHD HI/PH) * Combined presentation (ADHD C) # ADHD in Adults * Symptoms become less overt * Hyperactivity * Inner restlessness * Difficulty relaxing * Talkativeness * Constant mental activity * Impulsivity * Thoughtless behavior * Impatience * Irresponsible spending * Sensation-seeking behavior * Inattention (easily bored) * Difficulty with organization * Difficulty remaining on task * Difficulty making decisions * Stress sensitivity * Poor handwriting # Antisocial Personality Disorder * Asocial is different from Antisocial. * Introvert - prefers being alone, doesn't mind being alone, enjoys being alone. * Antisocial - prefers/doesn't mind/enjoys harming others. * ASPD affects 1-3% of the population * Symptoms: * Strongly self-centered * Trouble with laws & norms * Poor interaction with others * Lack of remorse * Antagonistic * Disinhibited personality * Manipulation * Hostility * Extreme risk-taking * Impulsivity * Illegal/criminal activity * Substance abuse * Sense of superiority * Extremely opinionated # Risk Factors for ASPD * Abuse or neglect during childhood * Stressful environments (activates ASPD gene) # Criminals with ASPD Criminals with ASPD show no remorse, take pride in their crimes, diagnosed at 18 with conduct disorder by 15, aggression towards people and animals, vandalism, arson, destruction of property, lying, dishonesty, theft, serious violation of rules. # Borderline Personality Disorder (EUPD/EID) * EUPD - Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder * EID - Emotional Intensity Disorder * 10% die by suicide * Intense, overwhelming emotions * Identity difficulties * Dysregulation (swinging from extreme anger to extreme guilt) * Persistent feelings of emptiness * Impulsivity * Intense anger, paranoia, or dissociation during stress * Autophobia (fear of being alone) * Insecure sense of self (seeing oneself as "bad" or "horrible") * Self-sabotage * Ending beneficial relationships to fail tests on purpose * Ruining chances at goals due to negative self-image * Unworthy of good things (feeling like they don't deserve good things) # Favorite Person * Only source of happiness, validation, and assurance.
