It's a folk dance that imitates the movements of the tikling bird, which dodges bamboo traps set by rice farmers. Cariñosa dance history The Cariñosa is a Philippine folk dance that originated on Panay Island and was introduced by Spanish colonizers. The dance is considered a national dance of the Philippines and is known for its Spanish influences. The word Cariñosa is Spanish for "she that is loving". The dance represents the courting phase of a romantic relationship.
