May I also remind you that you should be open-minded as you go through the lesson. ### Factors that affect one's attitudes and practices related to sexuality and sexual behaviors 1. **Family**. Family values oftentimes determine your own values. 2. **Culture**. Filipinos living in different regions have diverse cultures and beliefs. Your cultural background can affect your values regarding sexuality, along with the norms and standards set by society. 3. **Peers**. Like your family, your friends can also have a significant impact on your views on human sexuality. 4. **Media**. The media plays a significant role in our lives as we regularly watch televisions, listen to radio, search the internet, read newspapers, etc. ## Gender Equality What does it take to be a man or a woman? Our sense organs alone do not determine whether we are men or women. Our gender includes a multifaceted combination of beliefs, behaviors, and characteristics. How do we act, behave, and talk like a man or a woman? Each one of us has a sex, a gender, and a gender identity that are all aspects of our sexuality. These aspects describe who we are, in different personalities and attributes which are interrelated. Society's categories for what is masculine and feminine may not capture how we truly feel, how we behave, or how we define ourselves. When a child is born, the most common question asked is what is the baby's sex? This question is asked because, sex is biologically determined, from the time we come out of the womb, by our chromosomes, genitalia, reproductive organs, and hormones. People often regard sex and gender together as if they are the same thing, but really they are two separate categories. Gender is a category that splits bodies into a binary system of women and men. Ultimately the two terms are interrelated because, one's biologically determined sex is assigned a gender role to play. The main difference between the two is that gender excludes biology. Sex represents the body's anatomy and physiological workings and gonder represents social forces that mold behavior Your sex role should not limit your interests. You can be masculine and feminine but can still participate in events and professions that are usually chosen by persons of only one sex. Healthful sexuality is being comfortable and contented with your attitudes about your sex role. ## Examples The pictures below illustrates how the given factors influence your sexual attitudes and behaviors. * If you belong to a family that shows love and respect with one another. * Peers can be bad or good influence to a teenager's life. * As Filipinos we have many cultures that affect how we behave. * Everything that a teenager sees in social media can affect how he/she behave. ## Let me try this ### Activities / Exercises ### Activity 1 **Directions**: Pool of words.
