## GROUNDED **Read the passages and select the best answer for each question.** Joshua was audacious and some days some might even describe him as dauntless. He possessed a lot of energy which occasionally got him into some major trouble at school. Sometimes it was for talking back, other times it was for distracting others. There was even a time or ten when he got reprimanded for riding a wet floor sign down the stairwell. Joshua knew better. He was bright and knew how he should act. However, he was a classic case of "bored in school." He really was just trying to bring new energy to his school day. Something was lacking for him, he couldn't find the right excitement in silent reading or algebra. His mom would get called down to the school quite frequently, so often in fact she became great friends with the office staff and even brought them lunch occasionally. Joshua's mom and the principle started brainstorming different ideas to help Joshua straighten out his behavior. They decided to use a cell phone as an incentive. Joshua was ecstatic to get a cellphone. He had been begging for one for months. Mom decided that Joshua could only have the phone numbers of people his mom had approved, and she checked his phone every night before bed. He was allowed to have his phone at school because he participated in sports after school, but under no circumstances was he allowed to be on the phone in class. As long as his mom stayed out of the office, Joshua was allowed to keep the cell phone. Weeks passed, and the plan was working. Joshua was staying out of trouble, and everyone was elated. Until one month in, Joshua forgot the rules about not having this phone in class. The principle dialed Joshua's mom, and she made her way to the school. Upon her arrival, she learned Joshua had been texting the answers to a test to a classmate; they were the correct answers too. Joshua's mother simply turned to Joshua, said, "You're grounded," and put her hand out. **1. What text evidence DOES NOT prove that Joshua was audacious?** a.
