Sharmaine Grospe BEED 2-1 Environmental Science Activity 1 WEEK 1 1. As an engaged student and a conscientious Filipino citizen, delineate your multifaceted role in the crucial endeavor of environmental protection. Reflect upon how your actions and choices can influence the preservation of the natural world, while upholding the principles of sustainable development. Expound on the responsibilities that emanate from your dual identity, discussing your potential contributions to shaping a harmonious coexistence between human progress and the conservation of our precious environment. (10 points) As a dedicated student and an honest Filipino citizen, describe your various roles in important environmental protection efforts. As a student and a citizen of our community and as a person, one of my primary contributions is planting plants and vegetables in our yard. Disposing of waste in the correct container. And recycling things that can be recycled. In this way, it will help our environment and reduce its effects on our world or country and also to our mother earth. 2. Contemplate the profound insight encapsulated in the timeless maxim, "IN OUR EVERY DELIBERATION, WE MUST CONSIDER THE IMPACT OF OUR DECISIONS ON THE NEXT SEVEN GENERATIONS," originating from the annals of the Iroquois Confederacy's great law. Envision the transformative potential of global adherence to this guiding principle. Delve into how the world would likely evolve if individuals, institutions, and societies conscientiously accounted for the longterm repercussions of their actions on succeeding generations, fostering a legacy of sustainability, resilience, and intergenerational equity. (15 points) This saying comes from the great law of the Iroquois Confederacy that shows the idea of self-responsibility and sustainable decision-making. Before we make a decision, especially if it has to do with our environment, we should think about the impact it will have on us but also on the next generations. 3. What is the value of the environment? Cite at least three examples and explain. (15 points) One of the values of our environment is the source of our food. Planting vegetables and fruits is one of the things that provides nutrition to our smile and gives us strength in the day and the trees. The animals will balance the food chain and food web, especially in the forests that are the habitats of different species of animals. The ozone layer acts as our protection against the sun's UV rays. By planting trees and reducing pollution in our environment it will help. So it is very important to take care of our environment. 4. What moral responsibility do we have in dealing with the major environmental problems that result from our resource consumption? (10 points) One of the moral responsibilities and steps that I will take to resolve the destruction and facing issues in our environment is to practice and act on environmental ethics just as it is the human responsibility to count as a person who cares for nature, we can avoid natural disasters. It's just like the illegal logging that helps the flood that is cut and bald. One of the easiest things to do is throw it in the right trash and separate the recycle from the reuse. That's just one of the basic methods of protecting nature because waste has a big impact on our environment and not only on our nature but on animals. 5. Which needs should be given the highest priority in our decision making, the environment or the economy? The need that should be given the highest priority in our decision-making is environment because we depend on the environment. Just like the foods we eat that are obtained from the crops from which we can get enough nutrients. If we continue to destroy our environment, there will be a bad effect on all living things in our world. Preserve the environment, protect it, and develop it. because our economy depends only on our environment. 6. Is Environmental Sciences solely concerned with science? Justify your answer. (10 points) Environmental science is not only concerned with science, but it is connected with ideas and concepts in different fields of study, which are the decisions that have impacts in all these fields of study like biology, ecology, chemistry, anthropology, political science, and etc. This study is broad and interdisciplinary. 7. Briefly explain the four basic principles of environmental science. (20 points) Systematic principles of the environment: The environment is a blessing through thick and thin. Everything, animate or inanimate, is very important because humans and animals only depend on our nature. If it is destroyed, it affects us Principle of environmental capacity: Our environment only has capacity because we consume it, so let's learn to take care of it like animals, different types of trees, and natural water bodies. Principle of symbiosis between man and environment: The principle of symbiosis between man and environment shows the interaction in which each is connected. especially since we only benefit from each other. Other animals, like pigs, help us with our food, and other animals, like dragonflies, help with Santan nectar. Principle of entropy: It contains the energy process because it has natural processes. It cannot be returned to its original state.
