Introduction ============ 2. What is sports management? ========================== - Development in different sporting sectors; - Ethics; - Governance, legislation, and policy; - Strategic planning and business principles; - Marketing and communication; - Safety, risk, and performance management; and - Sponsorship, fundraising, and mobilising resources. - Considerable amounts of human waste, such as faeces, are produced during large- scale events and are sometimes disposed of in waterways (Ranjan, 2016:27). - Mass **consumption** and depletion of resources, such as water and electricity, in the process of **maintaining** stadiums and fields (Pfahl, 2013). - The creation of sports infrastructure often requires the modification of existing land and resources. Trees and other plant life may need to be removed in order to build sports fields or stadiums; golf courses require constant use of pesticides in order to control insects; and ski slopes often generate snow that doesn't occur naturally. All of these factors place ecosystems and the environment at risk (Pfahl, 2013). 5. **Effects of COVID-19 on the sports sector** - Planning around the reality of potentially having a reduced number of fans or no fans at sports matches; - Preparing contingency plans for future pandemics or disasters; - Developing comeback plans to get players, volunteers, employees, and fans back to sports events; - Considering the role and impact that social media can provide to engage with fans and players; - Working on rebuiding relationships with sponsors, stakeholders, and vendors; and - Using the crisis as an opportunity to evolve and enable transformation efforts in your club. (Casey & Giorgio, 2020) objectives. progress).
