Health 6 Objectives Discuss the Vision and Hearing problems Identify what are the different vision and hearing problems Appreciate health living in our daily lives Objectives Discuss the Vision and Hearing problems Identify what are the different vision and hearing problems Appreciate health living in our daily lives Vision Vision, the most dominant of our senses, plays a critical role in every facet and stage of our lives. We take vision for granted, but without vision, we struggle to learn, to walk, to read, to participate in school and to work. Vision impairment occurs when an eye condition affects the visual system and its vision functions. Everyone, if they live long enough, will experience at least one eye condition in their lifetime that will require appropriate care. Vision Problems Astigmatism - when the cornea is not curved evenly in all directions. Light that enters the eye will be out of focus and blurs your vision for both close and distant objects. Vision Problems Nearsightedness (myopia) - This occurs when the cornea is curved too much or the eye is longer than usual. Instead of being focused precisely on the retina, light is focused in front of the retina, making distant objects seem blurry. Vision Problems Farsightedness (hyperopia). - This occurs when the cornea is curved too little or the eye is shorter than usual. The effect is the opposite of nearsightedness. When the eye is in a relaxed state, light never comes to a focus at the back of the eye, making nearby objects seem blurry. Vision Problems Xeropthalmia. - a disease that causes dry eyes due to vitamin A deficiency. If it goes untreated, it can progress into night blindness or spots on your eyes. It can even damage the cornea of your eye and cause blindness. Vision Problems Strabismus. - (eye misalignment, Lazy Eye, Cross Eye) is a condition in which one eye is turned in a direction that’s different from the other eye. It’s usually found in children, but it can happen in adults. Hearing Problems Impacted Cerumen - When earwax (cerumen) builds up in your ear and blocks your ear canal. it causes ringing in the air, feeling that the ear is plugged, earache, and temporary hearing loss. Hearing Problems Swimmers Ear - an infection in the outer ear canal, which runs from your eardrum to the outside of your head. It's often brought on by water that remains in your ear, creating a moist environment that aids the growth of bacteria. Hearing Problems Otitis Media - an inflammation or infection located in the middle ear. Otitis media can occur as a result of a cold, sore throat, or respiratory infection. What is the difference between hyperopia and myopia? Why should strabismus be treated immediately? How can you have swimmer's ear even if you do not swim? Make an smart goals to preserve the condition of your hearing and vision.
