Glass Ionomer Restoration (2) By: Dr. Rehab Alwakeb Operative Dentistry Division outline 1. Classification of Glass ionomer acc to: composition. Chemistry (CGIC, RMGI, Nanoionomer) Clinical use. 2. Indications/contraindications. 3. Manipulation. Metal Reinforced GICs: Disadvantages: 1- More shrinkage during setting (added polymerization ) than conventional GIC 2- Less F release. 3- the lower water and carboxylic acid contents reduces the ability of the cement to wet tooth substrate (less bonding) 4- HEMA monomer can cause pulpal inflammation. 5- The temperature associated with polymerization is a draw back. 6- Water uptake by HEMA can cause fracture of all- ceramic crowns when hybrid ionomer are used as core build up or luting cement. Clinical Application: 1- fissure sealant. 2- base (sandwich technique). 3- restoration. Thank You
