But it’s not just about feeling good or having material wealth; it’s about fulfilling your purpose as a human being. ARISTOTLE'S VIEW ON HUMAN FLOURISHING According to Aristotle, several key factors contribute to human flourishing: Phronesis (Practical Wisdom) Friendship Wealth and Power ARISTOTLE'S VIEW ON HUMAN FLOURISHING Aristotle believed that humans are rational and goal-directed. To flourish, we must actively use our ability to reason and pursue activities that match our human identity. He also emphasized that each person is responsible for their own happiness. Everyone must strive to achieve their full potential, focusing on their strengths, talents, and goals. EASTERN AND WESTERN PERSPECTIVES ON HUMAN FLOURISHING EASTERN PERSPECTIVE Eastern cultures, such as those influenced by Confucianism in China or Bushido in Japan, focus more on the community. The individual is expected to prioritize the well-being of society over personal goals. WESTERN PERSPECTIVE Western Perspective (like Aristotle’s) Western societies, influenced by thinkers like Aristotle, often focus on the individual. Personal happiness, success, and achieving one’s goals are seen as the ultimate purpose of life. In this view, contributing to the community is a choice made by the individual based on personal values and priorities. GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE Today, globalization has brought these perspectives closer together. People now recognize the importance of balancing individual success with community cooperation. Science, Technology, and Human Flourishing Ancient Contributions: Early humans relied on basic tools like fire and stone weapons to survive. These simple innovations were crucial for meeting their needs, such as hunting, cooking, and protecting themselves. Science, Technology, and Human Flourishing Modern Advancements: Today, science and technology continue to improve our lives in extraordinary ways. For example, medical breakthroughs have increased life expectancy, and technological innovations like the internet have made global communication possible. HEIDEGGER'S VIEW Philosopher Martin Heidegger believed that technology is a human activity that reflects our ability to achieve science and pursue truth. By engaging with science and technology, we not only create tools to make life easier but also discover deeper truths about ourselves and the world.
