### Understanding Density? Density describes how much stuff is in a space. For example: a sponge is less dense than a pineapple. A metal coin is denser than a foam ball. Density is the mass of an object divided by its volume. Density often has units of grams per cubic centimeter (g/cm³). Remember, grams are a mass, and cubic centimeters are a volume (the same volume, as 1 milliliter). A box with more particles, in it, will be denser than the same box with fewer particles. $V = L x W x h$ ### Example 7: **Which of the following sets have greater density?** a) Natural numbers between 1 and 5 * N = 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. * Less dense b) Real numbers between 1 and 5 * R = 1.00001, 1.00002, 1.00003,... * Denser c) Natural numbers between -1 and 5 * N = 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. * Less dense d) Integers between -1 and 5 * I = -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. * Denser e) Real numbers between 0 and 1 * ∞ number of numbers * Denser f) Whole numbers between 0 and 1 * W = 0, 1, 2, 3, 4,... * Less dense
